Club has reported that Bob Murphy has injured his elbow at training today and will miss 8 weeks.

Not a good start to 2014.

Two key players with long term injuries before we even start.

Injuries occur and create opportunities for others.

We have been feeling like our depth is looking good. We will find out.

That stinks!

I was watching him at training this morning towelling up opponent after opponent at CHB during match practice thinking what a good year he looked like having. He's a quick healer normally hopefully he's back before 8 weeks.

Shouldn't affect his fitness. Right time of they year for this type of injury.

I was thinking the same thing.

Not ideal, but better now than when the real stuff starts. It also gives a bit of an opportunity to some younger guys (Fuller, Darley for example) to stake a claim in the NAB cup.

I agree, disappointing for Bob, but I was speaking with claysmyman earlier and it provides an opportunity for a few of our younger guys to get some exposure in the early part of the season - hopefully it proves beneficial in the long run.

Get well soon Bob.

Wonder what he did. I banged a dislocated elbow back into place once. It wasn't pretty, but without surgery I was back in business after four or so weeks.

Must have been a decent break or a really good dislocation for him to be out for so long.

If there is any positive to take out of this, Bobby is not the sort of player than needs long to regain touch.

This year is starting to shape a little like the last though - will we be impacted early?

Every club has injuries and that is why we need depth to stay competitive.

He's absolutely on the top shelf of Bulldog clubsmen ever and the same for players ever but this set back for Bob strangely may help the development of the list by giving others a go as already stated. It's not a tragedy or reason to be pessimistic, our new resilience will see to that.

Pearce, Darley, Fuller, Goodes all have an opportunity to show us what they've got. I also think Higgo could be used back to give some more experience, although he obviously doesn't give us the pace that Bobby does.

Agree with others, it's disappointing but it's time a few others stepped up

Buggerbuggerbugger :(

Trying to look on the bright side (providing an opportunity for others etc), but I hope it's not an omen. Get well soon, Bobby!

8 weeks from now or 8 matches? Our first match is in what, 6 and a bit weeks?

Who are the front runners to replace him off a half back flank? Goodes, Fuller or Cooney?

Young will be an important leader down there with Bob out.

I think Goodes was already in there with Murph anyway. Fuller may be the guy to slot in.

Cooney? I was thinking Darley

I was thinking it would be either JJ or Goodes for round 1 depending on form. With Murphy out I would expect both to now be the front runners for round 1.

I'd expect us to line up as;

Morris Roughead JJ

Picken Talia Goodes

Morris Roughead JJ

I like the look of that. And you haven't even had to use Murphy, Fuller or Darley

I have a feeling Bobby wouldn't mind coming back through the VFL for one game at the Whitten Oval.

It would be awesome to be able to yell support to him from the fence where you cheered our old greats.
