Senior Assistant Coach Brett Montgomery headlined a successful evening for the Western Bulldogs at the AFL Coaches Association awards, winning the Assistant Coach of the Year on Tuesday.

Montgomery has built a strong reputation for his insights on game trends and strategy and joins Brendan McCartney in taking out the award, after he was recognised as the best Assistant Coach while at Geelong in 2010.

Jack Macrae capped off a remarkable second season in the AFL placing third in the Best Young player Award, behind Gold Coast’s Jaegar O’Meara and Port’s Ollie Wines.

Midfield Coach Steven King was recognised for his work in 2014, and became the Club’s third award recipient of the night, claiming the La Trobe University Career and Development Award.

There's big wraps on Montgomery, he's a big chance to be a senior coach in the next couple of years.

Well done Monty, is never talked about for senior roles so heres hoping he sticks around for as long as possible

Adam Gilchrist probably chairs the panel! He seems qualified to award just about anything apparently.

I agree. The season didn't bear fruit, but having good people around the place who the industry accept as their leaders or best performers is a good thing. So from the the view of a improving on a club culture of excellence, this is one box ticked.
