View Full Version : Who do you want in our Guernsey Thursday?

Which potential draftees are you hoping we select? Who do you rate?

Based purely on a variety of writeups and their highlights clips on the website mine are:

Viojo-Rainbow: Purely for his spearing round the corner left foot picks that travel at breakneck speed. Could be a player you feed a lot of the ball through like Hawthorn do Suckling.

Toby McLean: Looks confident, can leap, strong mark, kicks goals. Could add a bit more x factor to our potentially awesome forwardline.

Alex Neal-Bullen: Another inside mid, but I'm not convinced we have quite enough, and a bit like Hrovat Neal-Bullen looks like a player that plays with intensity, is composed and uses the ball well.

Connor Menadue: Kid with pace and skills that likes to run with the ball and try and break open games. Fits a need or two.

Don't know much about the prospects only what we have on Woof and the media, so other than who has been mentioned a few times IMO Harrison Wigg's left foot looks elite and he also seems to have bit of tow.

Not that I'm a watcher of draft talent, but I really hope Menadue is available, his highlights video's some some fantastic skills.

Probably these guys in order of our picks and who will possibly be available.

Brayden Maynard - I have a bit of a man crush on him. Tough, hard at it, plays with high intensity, good penetrating kick, very good overhead, versatile and has a touch of pace to go with it.

Daniel McKenzie - Very athletic, versatile medium midfielder/defender. I really like his game sense and I think his game will translate quite well to AFL

Toby McLean - X factor forward, but also looks good through the midfield as well. His leap and overhead marking ability kind of cancels out his height.

Ed Langdon - Speedy medium forward/midfielder, with good endurance as well. Been injured a lot, but looks a great talent.

Daniel Nielson - Very athletic tall defender. Dale Morris replacement

I'd be happy with a later cheap KPD type like a Bukx-Smith who isn't highly rated at anything other than the thing he will be drafted for (being a close-checking defender). These lowly rated types can often forge quite an important career.

Besdies that - best available with player who are really good with at least one skill.

The only one i'm deadset on getting is Lukas Webb. Outside of him i'll welcome all the rest, but be happy if we get him with one of the last three picks.

always right

Would be delighted with the following if available at our picks.

Daniel McKenzie
Menadue
McDonald
V-Rainbow
Keitel

What position does he play?

He's a utility midfielder atm ED, so he can theoretically move between inside and outside play along with helping around the extensions of the forward and backline. All in all i see him as a versatile player for the future.

Two of D. McKenzie, Menadue or Lamb for our first pick would be a great result.

I like Webb, McLean, DVR and R. McKenzie for later picks if available.

I think we are gonna have to. Half the draft pool this year has them.

It's been a long time since we had the likes of Simon Minton-Connell and Cameron McKenzie-Mcharg running around in a Bulldogs jumper, time to inject some aristocracy back into the side!

I really like those selections but would have Lukas Webb early in the order. Using Brett Anderson's latest effort McKenzie is doubtful to be available. The main knock on Maynard is his endurance but he is very much like Clay Smith with his attack on the ball. He has better kicking skills than Smith though.

McLean at 39 would be a good get, Nielson and Langdon with a 3rd round picks would be a good ones as well.
I quite like the idea of getting Connor Blakely as he would settle in quickly.

And some really good big players

In that case, let's go the whole hog and recruit Lord Monckton.

I did a rough draft the other day with a couple of mates, well non Bulldog supporting mates, and I came up with the following names.

Pick 26

Tom Lamb

Pick 27

Lukas Webb

Pick 39

Toby McLean

Pick 45

Dean Gore

Pick 46

Tyler Keitel

Pick 62

Zaine Cordy

For the rookie draft I had Harry Dear, Brett Turner, Billy Evans and Daniel Pearce

Yeah your right, looks like McKenzie won't be available. Emma has him as high as pick 16. Menadue, Webb would still be good gets in replace of him. Not highly excited by Vickers-Willis or Blakely, but they would still be ok at 26/27. Could Blakely last till pick 39?

Unlikely I would have thought. To me he seems to be the sort of player the Saints should add at picks 21 or 22 as he would compliment Dunstan and Acres selections from last season but maybe Neal-Bullen suits them better.

So whats the knock on Lamb? Looks to have top 10 potential, height, endurance, natural footballer and can kick it well etc but most people have him going second round. You could see him playing a Jarrad Grant role in our side but with one massive difference. He can run a 15 beep!

Love to get McLean as well. If you can get a talent like him at 39 then you know its a deep draft.

Avoid the rush

Love this list, with one change. I'd swap Daniels for Keitel. Nothing against Tyler just love Caleb and reckon he is ready to star right away. Lamb would be a great get if he gets this far even though he is known to be a bit enigmatic, and Mclean could be just the player to top off a new look forward line. A bit off topic , i know, but what do others think will happen to Jarrod Grant. I still think he has loads of ability and just needs to find a position. Maybe on ball????

Big gap between his best & worst, but that's true of many kids.
There are off-field rumours but I don't think anyone has substantiated anything at this stage.

He has just about the smallest tank on our list, and is skinny for his height. On the ball is probably his worst possible position.

Agree, he needs a spell when he has made one challenge for the pill in the forward , no way he could go on ball and constantly challenge for it.

I'm with you GD.

I've really come around to hoping we take Lamb if he's there but history suggests we don't take kids with questionable characters, even if nothing has been proven.

Menadue is a favourite of mine and the other options you listed there would be good, too. I like Webb - even if 27/28 is a touch too early.

Almost feels as though we're going to get two talented kids regardless of what happens.

Would this be the Ryan Griffen that was 85kgs at the same age?

Always take player comparisons with a grain of salt - a few years back 50% of kids profiled were like Freo's Hill.
