I have only just seen this , I have already posted on Facebook and I will try to contact the Club as well , I would like to invite Kiel and his Mum Mary up to the Platinum Club as my Guests at a Home Game that suits them . Bullying shouldn't be tolerated in schools or out in public , a football game can be a volatile environment but there is no place for bullying , especially someone of Kiel's age

Good man. A terrible situation for this poor boy I just can't believe how people can be so cruel. This type of abuse can deeply affect an autistic child who are far more susceptible to depression.

Given all that we have heard about supporters booing Adam Goodes this report is actually more shocking to me.

With the Bye round there is enough time to organize it , not sure if there will be anyone I can call at the Club tomorrow with the Public Holiday , otherwise its Tuesday . I,m sure Peter Gordon and the Club will organize something as well .
The problem at the moment is that because the media report included their names a few people found Mary on social media and abused her as well

I think he's going to be OK.

It's a bit surprising this is prime time news worthy to be honest. I don't like what's been said to him, and I do think West-dog has acted admirably and I take my hat off to him.

Kids are resilient though, even if they're autistic. This is going to be something that makes him and his family stronger, as the world is full of ordinary people that do stupid things, and say stupid things to people that don't deserve it.

People get by and show they are stronger than the bullshit that comes their way.

And you know this how? This sort of ugly behaviour has no place. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. It wasn't bad enough to do it to a child, but to an autistic child...reprehensible.

I just figure people move on pretty quickly when unwarranted abuse comes their way.

Exactly, having first hand experience with a child with a disability I have to say that I know of many examples where they are not resilient and are deeply affected by change and the action of others. Many ASD kids simply can't process social situations and their lack of understanding leads to high anxiety and behavioral / mental problems. They just process things completely different to a neuro-typical child / person. I wish it was as simple as relying on them to 'move on'.

I trust he has supportive parents who understand his needs.

Really? A drunk supporter giving out abuse. Who wouldve thunk!

Drunk? So a 18+ year old abusing a child is pretty low don't you think, assuming he / she was actually drunk.

I'm not talking about the act, as unfortunate as it is the proponent likely had no idea the child was autistic, it is the potential flow on affects for the child that I'm concerned about, but this one is a bit close to home for me.

Sorry if I seemed insensitive in my previous post.

I got the impression the young man would probably be OK and that his family would move on due to the fact they were able to be interviewed by a TV network within 24 hours of the incident.

Drunk or not, no adult should be abusing a child with or without an ASD). It's exactly the sort of behaviour that should be called out. Yes she should have gone to security, but I can understand her being so shocked that she just wanted to get out of there.

I thought Adam Goodes should have done the same when called a name by a child.

Good to hear that the club has moved quickly to address this, distressing to hear that a kid was made to feel unsafe and attacked in this way.

Please don't use this as an occassion to take pot shots at Goodes. No need for that here.

Yup. The Goodes thing is a different issue in a entirely seperate debate.

Let's move on.

I think we need to get back to being a footy forum with all respects. This thread was a lovely gesture from a forum contributor and the thread doesn't reflect the spirit of the gesture. I love politics and society and social issues. But if I want to spend my time on those sorts of forums then I'd find one, but I don't want to. That's my two bob worth, so perhaps I should take my own advice and not read these threads and leave the debate well alone.

I agree you (while also agreeing with those defending Goodes).

Yes, Peter Gordon and the Club is organizing something for Kiel and his family , and the Club will assist me with my offer , its possible we could combine them both , Linda Murray has already been in contact and I,ll contact her tomorrow once she is back at work .
The Port Adelaide FC will make a final statement and reinforce the message to their fans about the Supporter Code of Conduct . Our Club will probably do something similar , we have a home game against them in Round 19 and I would hope that we are united in looking for revenge on the scoreboard not in the stands

To be fair you wouldn't expect this thread to become one of those threads.

I know you didn't mean anything by it Jeemak, it's all good. ASD is really the invisible illness. The simplest thing can be the hardest thing. Anyway, moving on as BT says...

Wow that is absolutely appalling. What is it with people? It makes me sick in the stomach that people actually behave like that.

Well done WestDog firstly for bringing to our attention and secondly your generosity.

Fantastic stuff by our club. He seems to be loving it watching our team train at WO and getting up close with the players. Gee I remember the ground now very well after going to the man match there. Great shots outside the Mission Elite Learning Centre. Big pat on the back everyone. Go Dogs!
