This is the round 21 edition of the Weekly Bankers and Anchors Thread. Once the game against West Coast is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys that you we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

B:

Jake. Ablett Snr - esq
Crameri. Worked hard.

A:

Talia. Enough said.
MC. Not the game to bring in Roarke.
NN. Throwing Bonts into Grant's head. And apparently within the rules.

always right

Bankers

Stringer - does something every game that leaves my jaw on the floor.
Crameri - very competitive.
Our first 3 quarters - played some great footy.

Anchors

MC - great that we have been able to bring in players at will this year and have them contribute but the Smith and Pearce inclusions were a step too far in a big game.
Umpire & crowd combination - some of the decisions at the ruck contests...
Last quarter - I thought the days of blowout last quarters were over. Kills off what was still a decent chance at a top four spot.

B: Perth ABC commentators for not being too parochial.

A: MC for not picking the best side available with a view to minimising the damage from this match. Too experimental for a top 2 side. Really, promoting 2 rookies for the toughest match of the year...what were they thinking?

Bankers:

Stringer - freak.
Wallis- brings everything he has got, every week.
Crameri- marking the ball really well.

Anchors:

JJ & Biggs - well down on their usual. Both kicked poorly.
Bonti- two bad blues in the third opened us up/ started the rot.
Grant - prior to his injury just wasn't involved enough, looked out of his depth in the heat of the game.

Bankers

Stringer- He was a positive on a day with few of them.

Crameri- Building some good form and is marking the ball nicely

The first 2.5 quarters we played competitive football.

Anchors

Talia- Is just hopeless. He cannot read the flight of the ball in any way. Caleb Daniel is a better key defender.

Biggs- His kicking is at best hit and miss.

The last quarter was a total capitulation, very poor.

A. Not taking our chances early on.

Bankers - Stringer and Crameri up fwd and Wally in midfield
Anchors - a number of players were having trouble getting into the game. This has likely helped the MC with some selection decisions for the last two rounds.

Bankers:

1. Stringers goals - he is a freak
2. Caleb Daniel - I like the way he plays
3. Crameri's steal and goal

Anchors:

1. Jong - 9 disposals from a midfielder is not good enough
2. Talia not playing man on man.
3. Biggs bad kicking, Murphy, Wood, Morris turnover handballs. Backline just gifted a ddozen goals making WC look good in the first three quarters.

Why is everyone getting stuck into Talia but not Hamling?

BANKERS
Stringer - Taking his game to scary places
Wallis - The definition of a banker in recent times. Mr Reliable
Crameri - Loving the way our forwards are working together. Played his role to a T

ANCHORS
Talia - Just not good enough 1 on 1 at present. Maybe lacking confidence
Campbell - No knock on him but 1st Ruck against the guns a bridge too far at this stage
Jong - I like Jong but seems to have lost a little pace and power since his injury. Not getting enough of it either.

Why is everyone getting stuck into Talia but not Hamling?

Because Hamling sticks to his man and is able to spoil nicely one on one. Talia loses his man, doesn't play body to body. He prefers to come over the top in a pack. How many times was Kennedy on his own.

Hamling was on Kennedy more than Talia was. Not saying Talia was good, he started on him and got shifted off but at least he kept Darling quiet after that

Bankers- Stringer( an absolute freak)
Crameri ( he was excellent )

Anchors - the last quarter capitulation
- Talia and Hamling were both ordinary
The midfield didn't get enough of it .
Lack of appropriate footwear. Surely they noticed in the pre-game warm up that it was slippery
I think there's a few who'll get weeded out when we become a seriously good side.
Jong, Redpath, and Talia were shown up against serious quality

It happens to often though with Talia, and he needs to address this urgently.
The clubs got a seriously big decision at years end, as to grab a gorilla key back and play Roughy in the ruck, or alternatively grab a decent ruck and continue to play Roughy as key back.

BANKERS

1. Jake 'The Package' Stringer - as Gerard Healy put, A-grade! (not that I always agree with Gerard).
2. Crameri - he is the perfect foil for the Package.
3. Wallis - he continues to toil away in a midfield that could do with a bit more muscle.

ANCHORS

1. Biggs - skill errors are too costly against top 4 teams especially in the back line.
2. Campbell - tried hard but he was pantsed by NicNat. He wasn't the first and won't be the last.
3. Getting injuries against the good teams - like Bevo said, this young group can't yet cover 2 players down letter alone 3.

Bankers:

Stringer - Our best forward yesterday

Dahlhaus - Worked very hard for us

Crameri - Has improved a lot

Anchors:

Talia - Not a great game

Our defence - Struggled yesterday but has surprised me this year and been very good as I thought overall it would struggle

3. Getting injuries against the good teams - like Bevo said, this young group can't yet cover 2 players down letter alone

I don't think that's a coincidence - good teams tend to be mature and more physical
