Wot, no Bonti??

They are insane. Ranked 13 in the league by their OWN standards.
Then again.....as I understand it. Bonty was the HIGHEST ranking player this round. AND wasn't even in the team of the week????

Then there's the lunacy of him not winning the rising star award last year.

They're all just SEETHING with jealous rage and cant stand to acknowledge his greatness.

On the positive side, massive nod to Matty Boyd making the squad on the back of 18 games. Not many would've picked that pre-season.

Don't get me wrong, I love Matty Boyd as much as the next Woofer, but would any list manager in their right mind choose him over His Bontness?

Every year there's a bloke who makes the squad who has been a very good player for a long time but has had a poor to average year (unless you ask anyone in the media)

This year it's Shaun Burgoyne. He's had the odd good game, but largely has been well down on previous years form and should be nowhere near this squad.

Boyd is in the squad as a backman, Bonti is a midfielder and has much more competition for a spot. Lock Bonti in for 2016 (and the next 10 years after that!).

But on the bright side we have 5 in the squad. That is equal 2nd most and only one less than the Hawks, yes the Hawks. #godogs

Having only watched Bulldogs games for the last three months, I am surprised to see Ibbottson, Jack Riewoldt and Cyril in the squad. Unless Cyril has transformed himself, I imagine he is still just averaging 10-12 touches and a few score assists a game? Similar to Burgoyne, if he wasn't Cyril he'd be nowhere near it.

Or Wallis?

According to the Woof Awards, Wallis is our runaway best player this year. As I have previously noted, we collectively don't have Bont top 6 (up to R22).

Cyril just has to limp through a season to get picked, really he needs to have a terrible season to justify non-selection (and he has plenty of them).

His season's stats;

Disposals 15 Tackles 4 efficiency 73% goals 35

Disposals 13 Tackles 3 efficiency 73% goals 45

Also ranked #6 in the league in 2015 - that's on total points whilst having missed 2 games. He's been the highest ranking player league-wide in each of the past two rounds.

It's silly that he's not in the squad, but not totally unsurprising given the AA selectors' form. They basically cut and paste herald sun articles from the year onto a wall and then play pin the tail on the donkey.

The selection of Matty Boyd is great testimony to the player and the coach. i had him written off 2 years ago. His rejuvenation has been a driving force behind our 2015 season. Think he'll get cut in the end but he'll be most unlucky as the selectors will likely give the nod to a popular favourite.

I don't think Bontempelli deserved a nomination on his output this year. Thats not to discredit him as he had some wonderful games, but he had lean patches as well during the year. His time will come.

If Wood doesn't get in it's a joke and Murph should be the captain.

Stefan Martin is the most unlucky. How does Natanui get in ahead of him?

The Bont if playing for a higher profile club would have made the squad on the basis of his AFL points ranking, but alas, he's not and he's young and he'll have to pay his dues. I agree that he's had his lean patches and like you I don't think his output has been consistent enough when compared to other midfielders to warrant a spot.

What I detest though, like others, is the perception he's had second year blues. It's Dwayne Russell and Tony Shaw bullshit of the highest order. How can these dickheads be employed in the industry?

B: Laird Rance Shaw
HB: Murphy Hurley Wood
C: Gaff Priddis Hill
HF: Wingard Cameron Stringer
F: Betts Kennedy Martin
R: Goldstein Fyfe Hanneberry

I/C: Dangerfield Mitchell Pendlebury Deledio

That's my go at it. Some positions are based on nothing more than what I've read.

Can't see any rationale for Natanui ahead of Goldstein. Goldy has been dominant and made an average midfield look good. NicNat has more to work with.

The wings are difficult, but I think Gaff and Hill are the two best ACTUAL wingman in the game. Helps that they get to play at Subiaco!

McGovern misses out on a KPD spot, but could easily be interchanged for Hurley.

The forward pocket that Martin is in was difficult as well. There's not really a specialised FP other than Betts in the squad...might see Stringer there with Martin/Deledio/Higgins on the HFF.

Interchange could be a pick of many players. I'd like to see Dahlhaus or Lachie Neale on there but can't see it happening.

We have some angst that Bonts is not in the side and the AFL Player ratings by Cahampion Data would have him locked in.

As a few have mentioned he did have quite a spell through the middle of the year where he struggled to influence games and this is reflected in our WOOF award.

Personally I see the unlucky player as our most consistent high level performer across the season in Mitch Wallis.

However, it is a media award and what would they know.

Ozza

I think it is a fantastic result to have 5 players nominated. That's one-eighth of the entire squad (from 18 clubs), so we can hardly feel like our players have been hard done by.

Its incredibly hard to get into the midfield, and I don't think that Bonti's season has been quite good enough to get him in there. When the likes of Fyfe, Dangerfield, Hanneberry, Mitchell, Priddis, Robbie Gray, Pendlebury & Kennedy have all been so outstanding and consistent - you really have to force your way in with dominance week in week out.

I think Murphy and Wood will get into the backline. Boyd will miss, probably just due to missing a handful of games - and that two in his team will edge him out.

I think Stringer will get in, but Dahlhaus probably hasn't had the scoreboard impact to go with his good possession and tackle numbers.

5 in the squad, and 3 in the team, would be a great result in a team finishing 6th.

1 & 2 in the coaches voting didn't make the squad. Dahlhaus 8th at the club but top 40 in the AFL

I can actually see Bont getting a disproportionately high number of Brownlow votes this season, in a similar vein to what Peter Matera polled in 1994. As a mid, his low 20's possession games have a far more telling influence on the team as most other mids in the comp, and I think the umpires will notice this - being a mid who impacts up forward on the scoreboard will also help him get noticed.

He may not poll enough to win the Brownlow but I can see him getting 20-25 votes this season.

While I don't expect him to poll as many as you suggest, I would have him clear favourite to be our top scorer in the Brownlow.
As you say his good games were the type to attract the attention of the umpires in relation to awarding votes.

Reckon Bont has the capacity to poll votes in all of R1, R2, R5, R15, R17, R18, R19, R20, R22 and R23 - he wasn't BOG in many of these games but he made high-profile contributions that I reckon will get noticed (inside 50's, high tackle numbers, goals).

He might also be a sneaky chance to snag a vote in R4, R9, R12 and R13 - if he does you know he's going to be an umpire's pet over the course of his career.

I reckon our top brownlow vote getter with 15-20 will be Mitch Wallis. In and under clearance machines usually do relatively well in the Brownlow, has already topped Dogs vote in the prestigious AFLCA and WOOF awards and is blonde.
