As a rookie you'd want 41 wouldn't you?
As close as possible to #42 worn by two rookie legends (Boyd then Picken).

Yep!

- Lipsinki gets 13 as it's close to 12 his TAC number. Hopefully he liked Gia as a fan.
- English gets Will's 27 as our new ruck. Couldn't be more unlike Will as a ruck but he is one nonetheless.
- Cloke with 30. He wore 32 and his dad 33 I think. 30 is close enough!
- Young, Green and Mullenger-McHugh get what's left in order they were drafted.

I think the new guys should slug it out for the best numbers MMA style.

Have we got any retired numbers ATM.

There was a pretty good rookie who started out in 40.

Adams changing means from Hargrave onwards no one has worn the 33 for more than 3 (maybe even two, I'm going off memory here) seasons.

Not only that, three players in that time have made the same switch from 33 to 25 (Hargrave, Hunter and Adams). Other players to wear it briefly were Brad Murphy, Josh Hill (switched to 20), Tim Callan, Nick Lower and Sam Darley.

If Adams is taking a higher number, presumably off another player who will be around after next year should we read into it he might be staying if a jumper number improvement is something he asked for?

If a different jumper number is the difference between Adams staying or going i think his priorities are way out of whack

I was perhaps inelegant in my phrasing. Does Adams asking for a new number indicate that he wants to stay beyond next season perhaps? I mean why bother asking and then swapping numbers if you want out? And why give it to him if he's not staying. Perhaps I'm over analysing it.

Worried...will 44 fit on Tim's back?

Shades of Justin Madden with 44?

I got what you were saying and had the same thought. It's possibly a good sign

From the club website:

With the 2017 playing list now finalised, westernbulldogs.com.au can reveal the guernsey numbers the players will be wearing in the new season.

Defender Marcus Adams, who wore number 24 in the WAFL, has shifted to the closest available option, the number 25 worn by Hall of Fame full back Herb Henderson during the 1950s, while Travis Cloke has taken Daniel Giansiracusa’s former number 13.

Draftee Patrick Lipinski has taken over Will Minson’s number 27, while Fergus Greene will wear number 30, a jumper worn by premiership players Ross Abbey and Joel Hamling.

Brian Royal played 199 games between 1983-93 in the number 33, and Alan Hopkins, the Club’s first Brownlow Medallist wore it for 151 games in the late 1920’s, early 1930s. That number has gone to 17-year old draftee Lewis Young.

Number one draft pick Tim English has taken Mark Hunter’s old number 44, young tall Nathan Mullenger-McHugh will wear 40, and Catergory B Rookie signing Tristan Tweedie will wear 45.

Brian Royal wore 33. I know you said about it being from Shaggy on but I always like to point that out.

From the club website:

Sheesh westernbulldogs.com.au Ross Abbey definitely isn't a premiership player (he never got close being a 1970's player). It was his dad, Angus Abbey, who wore #30 in the 1954 GF (in his final game).

Yes a really great player for us. I never realized Alan "bandy legs" Hopkins had played in number 33 either. History tells us he was one of the doggies greats too.
