The Western Bulldogs today announced that Graham Lowe has decided to step down from his role as GM Football AFL.

Lowe made this decision to provide more balance between family and work, whilst also allowing time to pursue high performance leadership consultancy.

Speaking to westernbulldogs.com.au on Tuesday afternoon Lowe said, “It has been a privilege to have worked with such a highly committed and talented group of people and to have played a part in the Western Bulldogs journey over the past four years culminating in Premiership success.

“I want to especially thank Luke for his commitment to our partnership which has been a professional highlight for me. The time is now right for me and my young family, that I pursue opportunities within the culture and leadership development space."

Um no. Chris Maple has come a long way in a short time. Good for him.

So we need to find a coaching performance manager. Any ideas?

He must be pretty versatile, Chris Maple. Premiership coach, development and now transitioning into more of an admin role. I like people who will have a go at something.

He's even kicked me out of a closed training session.

I don't think this will be a hard position to fill and I suspect we will be advanced in our search.

How do we rate Lowe's performance as GM?

Um, fast? He wasn't really there for very long.

Hard to tell how he performed because we added so many roles around him over the years.

Chris Maple is number two to Bevo and his role is to develop the assistant coaches and so he will transition into the role. Ben Graham is football operations manager so he will take up many roles that Lowe did and assist Maple.

Lowe is a real talent who had an exceptional working relationship with Bevo. He will be missed.

He was appointed High Performance Manager 2012 and in 2013 he got the GM role.
I thought he'd been with us a bit longer

Externally i dont think you can rate people in those types of roles.

We won a premiership with him in that position and to lose anyone this close to the season starting is a disappointment.

He was Bevo's right hand man from all accounts - massive loss really considering the successful working relationship they had.

Maple is obviously highly rated and is successful in everything he does .. Could Grant take Maples role ?

Grant is head of the football department as Director and is Bevo's, Maple's and all the assistants boss etc

My understanding is that he was highly regarded. Was originally recommended by Ben Graham to the Club.

Thanks for the update NBP, it seems Lowe was a no nonsense and respected GM so hopefully he can help with the transition for Chris Maple.

Did Lowe say where he was going to? I see he mentioned his family and assuming he wants to feed said family he will need a job.

I think he said he will transition to a sports high performance consultancy business.

There really isn't a better time for Lowe to move on. His collateral will never be higher coming off the back of an AFL Premiership and there's no doubt that he'll be moving into a position with a substantially expanded remuneration package.

not really enough content to deserve a separate thread ... so I post a link here in instead (more about Chris M than Graham L but it's related): http://www.thecourier.com.au/story/4502019/ballarats-chris-maple-named-western-bulldogs-new-football-general-manager/

Really think we are missing this dude.

Things behind the scenes haven't been quite as smooth since he left. Seemed to be one of those quiet back room boys who made minimum fuss but hugely influential in keeping things moving in the right direction.
