What does the flag actually look like?

I mean, I'll see it on the night, obviously. Just wondering.

Can't believe I have to miss this week for my cousins wedding! We better be unfurling more premiership flags in the future!

If it's on a Saturday it greatly increases Axe Man's chances.

Unfortunately the wedding is late Friday arvo in Lorne so I'm out of luck.

That's a horrible looking flag, should have the club name and a better scrypt, very plain.
Guess I shouldn't complain we have a new one .. Do we have the VFL flags flying during VFL games I've never noticed. We will need a few more flag poles at this rate. :-)

Can't wait for that part of Friday. A most triumphant exclamation mark on The Year that contained The Month and finished on The Day. It's an official full stop from the team's perspective and official license for the fans to take over the story for a while , so the Club can go about winning a few more.

I'm just happy to have one (first for most of us woofers).

I didn't watch or go to the Season launch but did they show the whole flag there or just hand it to Peter Gordon.

From our club website regarding the flag:

Flag Unfurling

The Western Bulldogs will unfurl their 2016 AFL Premiership flag at Friday night’s match, in a pre-match ceremony. A host of iconic Bulldogs figures from across the Club’s history will take part in the ceremony including John Schultz and Chris Grant, with the remaining identities to be revealed across the week on westernbulldogs.com.au.

Fans and members are advised to be in their seats at 7:20pm to be able to enjoy the flag unfurling ceremony that will commence shortly after.

Bulldogs Shop - Get Your Own Replica AFL Premiership Flag

Western Bulldogs fans can own their own piece of premiership history, with replica AFL Premiership flags available for purchase exclusively at Etihad Stadium at the Club's round two match against the Sydney Swans.

The flags can only be purchased at the game, and are available from all Bulldogs Shop outlets at the venue.

The Bulldogs Shop will be at seven locations, across three levels of Etihad Stadium. They are:

Outside Concourse - Outside Gate 5

Level 2 Internal Concourse - Gate 6
Level 3 Internal Concourse - Gate 6

I feel silly asking this but do we still have our 54 flag I can't recall ever seeing it being on display

This was Charlie with the 1954 flag and game ball in relatively recent times, so it must still be around. Is it in the museum?

That flag looks suspiciously new to me. I'm pretty sure that our original flag that used to fly over the Whitten stand on match days went missing after they forgot to take it down one night.

I might be spilling a secret I was told in strictest confidence several years ago saying that I'm sure that it's relatively common knowledge these days that we lost one.

So where will our 2016 premiership flag be flying somewhere at the Whitten Oval for sure?

Enjoyed the flag unfurling last night and bought one of those pennant flags.

You should attach the replica flag to the front bonnet of your car. You could pretend to be the president.

Emotional scenes at Etihad Stadium as the Western Bulldogs unfurl their 2016 AFL Premiership Flag

IT WAS always going to be an emotional moment.

With 52 years between premierships for the Western Bulldogs, it meant 52 years between the unfurling of a flag.

But what better moment to raise that 2016 flag than against the team the Dogs conquered on that fateful day.

Before the Bulldogs ran out against Sydney at Etihad Stadium on Friday night, the flag was hoisted inside the forward 50 at the Lockett End of the ground.

Carrying the flag out was a combination of past players and key figures, including Tony Liberatore, Susan Alberti — who was in tears while walking out — John Schultz, Brad Johnson, Gary Dempsey, Scott West and Ted Whitten Jnr.

Ahead of that collective were Bulldogs legends Chris Grant and Rohan Smith, who carried the Premiership Cup.

As the flag was hoisted, the stands erupted in applause.

It was a moment for all those who rode the tough times over the years — a reward for the Bulldogs faithful.

“This is a special moment in front of all of our faithful fans that have followed us through thick and thin,” club president Peter Gordon said on 3AW.

“It’s a great reward for following us throughout all the years without much reward.”

Before the moment, Bulldogs legend West said he was “proud and honoured” that the club had asked the group to carry the flag.

“It’s obviously a dream come true, we missed out on that opportunity but to see them win the flag last year was just such a proud moment for everyone who’s ever been involved in the Bulldogs,” West told Fox Footy.

“Tonight, it’ll be such a special night to see the flag being raised and I’m sure all the supporters will just love it.

“You speak to so many past players that, they just wear their heart on their sleeve when it comes to the Bulldogs because we just wanted to win one.

“We were unfortunately not able to do that, but to see this group come through, to see what Luke Beveridge has been able to do for the football club.

“He’s actually embraced the whole Western Bulldogs community and dragged everyone back to the footy club. And he’s done such a good job, not just on the field but off the field as well.”

https://cdn.newsapi.com.au/image/v1/a87bde37c5f2cccae77dc93734b3a28b?width=700

AFL legend Alastair Lynch said while the players wouldn’t see the flag unfurled, it would be an emotional moment of reflection when they spotted it on the field.

“The moment you see the flag you go ‘yeah that was a pretty special time,’” he said on Fox Footy.

I loved the fact that they involved fans as well as club legends and players. The fans have lived the whole journey -- the players only live a part of it (albeit a pretty important part!) But it's the fans who make the club.

Here are some more photos from the Internet I put together as a collage. Look at the emotion from Susan Alberti. Did make my heart beat faster. I love this club and the peoples.

We were watching them March the flag around and my mum pointed at Susan Alberti and said "Good for her, that poor woman sat on a plane with her daughter's dead body sitting next to her all the way from America" She is a remarkable woman who inspires people from all walks of life in different ways.

Couldn't see Dougie carrying the flag & I thought to myself, he's bloody got stuck in traffic and missed it! Then he gets announced as one of the 'hoisters' and I was rapt.

Dougie is my original Doggies hero.

He used to be the second best player that I saw after Kelvin Templeton. But the Bont is better than both.

Doug gave us 300+ games though.
