Even after adding Woof as an exclusion on Avast it was still inhibiting access via Chrome.

So I have done quite a bit of reading on this subject and it looks like the reason behind this may simply be due to the fact that this site is http and requesting passwords. Google has been pushing hard for sites requiring passwords to be https

A report is available at the following URL

https://aw-snap.info/file-viewer/?protocol=not-secure&tgt=www.woof.net.au%2F&ref_sel=self&ua_sel=chr&fs=1

Key call outs being

Note! It looks like your domain/URL is currently flagged by Google under the Social Engineering (Phishing and Deceptive Sites) category. For some tips on things to try see: Remove a phishing or web forgery warning

The scan has detected some potential problems in these files. First scroll down through the code listed out after the list of links, this is the code returned by the request for the URL you entered and check for any problems. Next, these link(s) will open the individual URL(s) in this tool, check through the code that is returned, compare the code being returned to a know clean copy, etc.

1 -> /forum/clientscript/vbulletin-core.js?v=422

Note! It looks like your page is using HTTP and is collecting passwords? Google has been flagging HTTP pages that collect user information, passwords etc. as Social Engineering (Phishing and Deceptive Sites) so it is LIKELY the reason for the flag. Google is pushing HTTPS hard. SEE: Google, Social Engineering Warnings and HTTP pages

Extra information available at

https://aw-snap.info/utilities/is-flagged.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.woof.net.au

https://www.google.com/transparencyreport/safebrowsing/diagnostic/index.html#url=http://www.woof.net.au/

Google do also allow you to get extra information via their "Search Console"

To do this you click on the following link and click on 'Open the Security Issues Report'

It's got me stumped for now.

My home desktop, running Windows 7, wont have any bar of Woof via Chrome or Firefox, with Avast AV; With Woof.net.au exceptions added in so many places.

Yet my laptop, running the same OS (Windows 7), via Chrome, with McAfee AV, with no Woof exceptions added, has no problem accessing Woof.

I'm thinking it must be some difference with a setting I have between the two OR with the treatment of the different AV packages.

Thanks BD. - Yep - all cache and history cleared (numerous times); even cleaned up and rebuilt the Windows registry in an act of desperation :-). My hunch is that my issue maybe related to the AV (Avast) no longer liking Woof because if I turn off all the AV shields Chrome now lets me through. I've added a number of URL related exceptions in the AV settings but something else is blocking Woof when all the AV shields are on.

16-08-2017, 05:52 PM
Doc, it's interesting that you are experiencing those issues. I'll ask what might be causing it.

I've had a few friends check from various devices and places and they haven't reported anything blocking them. I've also used 3 browsers myself including Chrome which was the biggest issue and it's been clear since Tuesday morning.

So far I have located the Like and Thanks option as not working, my avatar doesn't work on the homepage except where I have posted or responded to a thread and the new post count numbers on the homepage doesn't work even after I have read threads and posts. ie if I log on and have 50 new messages after I have read 20 it's still shows as 50 unread.

To answer Topdog, Some of the fixes to get the site working again have included upgrading vBulletin, adding some security patches and I think most importantly adding an SSL certificate (Secure Sockets Layer) which is a secure encrypting link that protects the site and server and also potentially protects the site members

Google had cracked down on sites like this not using an SSL.

Some more bugs to iron out but I'm very hopeful we are over the worst of it.

Feel free to contact me via a private message or add your findings here.

One thing to look out for is that the location address now is https://www.woof.net.au/forum
The S means that the SSL certificate is in place.

It's a long shot but perhaps Doc is using the old shortcut to the site. Might be worth checking Doc

Did you load the site the same way? going to https://www.woof.net.au as opposed to the old http://www.woof.net.au may have made the difference

It's not good to have a http site where secure information is transmitted e.g. passwords as it is easy for people to intercept the data transmitted between your computer and the site and obtain your passwords and other sensitive information

Google and others moved to start warning and blocking users of those sites recently. Avast seems to have gone with a hard block, hujsh reported the same thing in post 36. It may have been added to your blocked sites list, you may have had the site bookmarked as http even after it moved to https, or you may have been loading the page from the browser cache so as not to pick up on the change

Thanks for all your hard work G.
One small thing Ive noticed is the "New Posts" does not go down when a thread has been read.

Thanks, I listed that a few posts back, there are about 6 issues I hope we can get addressed. That one frustrates me the most.

Hi Guy's, just letting you know that signatures can now be updated.

With the new posts on the home page, I cant remember how it used to work, but from my initial research it seems like it's only supposed to update on each login, to show new posts since the last time a user logged in. (edit: I could be wrong about this)
(edit 2: upon further investigation it seems that this is the intended behaviour: The new post count doesn't automatically decrease as you read them, only if you mark all as read or log out and in again. see: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:VzoEcaqP98MJ:www.vbadvanced.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-3121.html+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=au)

A note on the SSL. If you try and visit a url of the site without the https:// it will automatically redirect you to the secure site, so you don't have to worry about that. Another good practice is when embedding images from external image hosting sites (eg. tinypic, imgur, imageshack), always use https:// for the image URL where the image hosting site support it.

I'm working on the other issues also.

With the post count, it would reduce down after every post that you read ie it wasn't just reset with a new login.

Today happens to be the first time in a long time I've wanted to change my signature! Excellent work, given it wasn't working seven hours ago. Much appreciated.

Not sure if this is on your list or not:

When you click an emoticon to insert, the drop down box doesn't display correctly.

Cheers, and thanks for your help.

We are down to one issue to resolve and one other little thing that Southerncross will be looking at for us

The one issue is still the post count not diminishing when posts are read.

If there is anything else please list it here or send me a message. We are very close to being back in business :)

I swear that post count issue has always been like that. My bookmark is

https://www.woof.net.au/forum/search.php?do=getnew

and opening a post has never refreshed that until i open the bookmark again.

Looking back through a couple of threads, imbedded youtube clips aren't displaying at all. Not sure if that's just me using Chrome incognito though.

My YT links are all still embedded.

Whether you think they're any good is another thing........but they're there!

2 more issues found.

I don't think signatures can be changed and the reported post feature doesn't appear to be working.

Hopefully we can get these looked at soon.

Any chance of getting word limits put on signatures? It's annoying having to scroll through half a page of text for a three word answer.

You can edit your preferences so that you don't see them at all. As i view this site at work i took off signatures a long time ago

Even knowing that that might be a possibility, I still grill my ISP when we lose WOOF for an extended period. You’re just so reliable !!

What do you think about using Twitter or something to publish what's happening during outages? Might save Scraggers from thinking it is his end

https://twitter.com/GaryWOOF

There's also http://isup.me which checks if the site is down from their perspective, or if it is just down for you
