...if he is now going to be coaching at Sydney?

I though the whole idea of his move was to play for a year or two and then transition into a coaching role AT THE GIANTS. Why did they spend all of that time/money etc if the contractuals weren't locked away???

Does this seem - well, just plain weird - to anyone else?

He was flying last year. If he hadn't got suspended he might edge the prelim to GWS' favour and been part of a premiership side. Swings and roundabouts...

Yeah quite strange.

I thought that there was a final year of his contract where he'd be just a coach. Unless he played an extra year and this was it?

Not sure I would want him being a coach I'm backing he can't wait to sleep in some strangers couch again.
He is one great and hilarious man but not sure he would set the standard with off field stuff , he is a larikin and its never left him in my eyes.

Thing is, his footy IQ is off the charts. Perhaps he is more about tactics, strategy and technical teaching rather than welfare. That said, he isn't a bad mentor for a player who potentially will throw away his career. You can't have all your leaders being perfect. However, you cannot have someone who is a risk at being divisive. Not sure Stevie J is divisive, more just a larikin.

Everything I read though says the Giants offered him a deal but he went to Sydney anyway...

I just don't get this. Something is broken up there.

Could it not just be Stevie J doing Stevie J things?

He did also play 95% of games that he was available for while he was at the Giants, so it's not like they completely lost out by having him there.

Yep that was certainly the deal. Similar thing to Sam Mitchell going to West Coast. GWS seem a bit of a basket case at the moment. They get every advantage and every break a footy club could possibly get but haven't taken much advantage of them yet.

Maybe GWS decided that Stevie J was too much of a dickhead to be a coach. Whenever I've heard him interviewed he doesn't sound the most articulate sort of bloke. Maybe he's one of those footy genius types that have trouble communicating simple concepts. He wouldn't be the first.

Maybe Sydney offered a better deal, could be that simple.

very strange that it's happened so quickly.

Maybe he simply he a preference to join a fellow Cats player at Sydney.

Maybe Stevie J doesn't rate Leon Cameron and thinks the Giants could be in for some pain the next few seasons and just wanted out?

Could be that Stevie J wants to have as broad a CV as possible. Playing for two winning clubs in Geelong and GWS and then serving as an assistant at Sydney. Still doesn't excuse GWS locking him in if that was their desire at the start of said exercise.
