This is the round 1, 2018 edition of the Weekly Bankers and Anchors Thread. Once the game against GWS Giants is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

1. English competed well.
2. Gowers tried hard.
3. Dunkley worked hard both ways - 8 tackles

1. Midfield group as a collective were disgraceful in their lack of defensive running - Bont & Hunter especially culpable (could care less about their disposal numbers)
2. Slow and stilted ball movement all day
3. Wood up forward - fair enough to bag the coach but Wood did absolutely nothing to impact the game

Bankers:
- Macrae is a gem
- English is a freak who could become the most dominant ruck in the game
- Biggs tried his heart out

Anchors:
- The delusion that Wood is a forward needs to end
- Our kicking skills were deplorable
- Injury gods

Bankers

* Macrae never gives up to the end, 100th game and once more a 20 plus disposal game.

* Tim English, his 3rd game, very impressive.

* can't think of any more.

Anchors

* Libba's injury - he has worked his butt off in the preseason and was looking cherry ripe for a big season.

* The lack of impact from Wood, Trengove, JJ, The Bont

* Turnovers and skill levels (they go together I guess) - our disposal is woeful

Hunter - tried to be creative and at least got his hands on the footy and did some things when we were getting smashed early.
Macrae - worked his way into the game and didn’t give up.
English - threw himself at the footy in the air. Isn’t ready - but not for lack of attitude and application.

Anchors:

- The ridiculous team selection that had us well beaten before the ball was bounced - including the farcical Wood up forward and dreadfully inexperienced defence.
- Cordy - had an absolute mare. Everyone he went to would immediately get themselves a goal. Tough day to be a defender - but he would have had 8 or 9 kicked on him for the periods he stood Greene, Cameron and Patton.
- Our latent lack of run and energy. The likes of Bont, JJ, McLean, Biggs, Williams, Crozier just had no impact or effectiveness - and quite simply, couldn’t keep up.

Bankers:-
English - kicked the ball well a few times and attacked the contest in the air. Seems to have a bit of forward nous.
Macrae - lowered the eyes and hit targets, a standard Macrae game which is a good thing.
HC - did some good things with his attack and pressure, but most pleasing was him kicking a goal.

Anchors:-
Wood as a forward, didn't make an impact at all, looked lost and bereft of confidence.
Defensive structure - they had so many shots on goal from their entries which we can only dream of.
Libba - devastating to see him get injured, particularly after such a strong pre-season and all the talk from his teammates.
