This is the round 16, 2018 edition of the Weekly Bankers and Anchors Thread. Once the game against Hawthorn is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

First half. Good pressure. Good intent. Sufficient skill execution. Taking the game on.
Lynch. Looks likely and will be better for the run.
Schache. Looks the goods. If only he could field kick to himself on a lead we'd be a very dangerous side.

A

Second half. Poo. Rubbish. Pathetic. Insipid. Garbage. Embarrassing. Losing respect of the first half.
No goal quarters. 2018 might be a club record high.
Not addressing the lopsided team selection, leaving Naughton to stand at one end and rucking Cordy on McEvoy. Looking forward to this again next week...
Biggs. Trade. If no suitors, delist.

Over 10 quarters against NM, Geelong and Hawthorn to half time we were leading the points for and against. One loss. One win. One ahead in. The last half undoes all that 10 quarters worth of effort. The record book says we choked on NM, were lucky against Geelong/Harry and got spanked by an average Hawthorn side by over 10 goals. Embarrassing thud back to earth.

Our first half.
Crozier, a pretty consistent game from him.
Lynch, I look forward to seeing him, Williams and Naughton together in the backline.

A
Our second half, this will happen to such a young team however.
Biggs, (a) is not a forward (b) form has dropped right off.
Smith, will have to do a lot more.

Bankers

1. Wallis three goals
2. Trengove 11 marks, battled hard
3. Lynch, takes them on, got caught a few times, but love his will to make something happen

Anchors

1. Naughton ankle - appeared like he stubbed his toe on the turf. Hunter ankle, didn't look as bad.
2. Centre clearances in 2nd half. The ball cleared 7 times in a row for 7 goals.
3. Being caught holding the ball on at least 5 or 6 times resulting in easy goals for Hawks.

Bankers

1. First half. There were shades of 2016. Good signs that we are getting there.

2. JJ off half back. Run Forest run. He is key to unlocking opposition zones. It was no surprise we looked like scoring when he was breaking the lines. However he needs help to be released when tagged out of the game because he really struggles with a Tag on his own.

3. Lynch. His willingness to take on the tackler is great and should be encouraged BUT please don't do it every single time especially when you are 15 metres out from the opposition goal surrounded by 4 opposition players. His speed and step is good to watch. If he continues to show more encouraging signs like this game he will be elevated to a list spot.

Anchors

1. Second half. What the hell did Bevo say to them at halftime ffs. He gave them a reverse rev up. Hawthorn changed up a few things tactically and we were done. That is a very worrying sign from senior players to the coaching staff that we were way way way too slow to react.

2. We need to play a genuine ruckman and a genuine contested ball winner at centre bounces. Hawthorn waltzed out with clean ball way too easy way too many times. Boyd is shown up against quality rucks and desperately needs help. Campbell has his limitations but what we are doing aint working either. Play him I say. A Macrae, Libba, Clay Smith or Picken would be handy right now for that hardness around the contest.

3. Umpires. So many head scratches that killed us. Naughton's mark not paid. Lynch's show of strength push in the front/side of Breust. Dahl contact below the knees to Impey without actually making contact to Impey's legs. Some HTB against us with zero prior opportunity. We seemed to be on the wrong end of all the shocking decisions all night.

That happens a lot. Our players are too accepting of bad decisions from the umpires. I could hear Cordy say to the umpire after one particularly bad decision (I think it after was one of the more fanciful decisions that went Breust's way) "yeah, that's fair enough" while he was standing on the mark but the decision wasn't "fair enough" it was farcical and Cordy should have been in the umpires face demanding an explanation as to why the umpires seemed determined to give Bruest a day out in front of goals. Ben if he gave a 50 away it didn't matter because Bruest was going to kick the goal anyway. Our players are too accepting of incompetence from umpires we never hear a "you're kidding?" Or a "oh for gods sake" from our blokes the way that every other team's players do when the umpire *!*!*!*!s up or cheats.

Totally agree. Just take duckwoods lead. He is the biggest sook to the umps and lo and behold he gets more frees than any other player. I have often wondered why we never let the umpire know he has made a howler. He obviously won't change the decision but it might make his think twice about the next 50/50 contest.

Precisely. Harry Taylor put on a masterclass in standing on the mark arguing with the umpire last week. The umpire was explaining something to Taylor and when the umpire got to the "I paid the free because you did blah, blah" bit Harry just shook his head, rolled his eyes and pointed to the replay on the scoreboard

My bankers and anchors as well. Well summed up ratsmac.

B:-
Brad Lynch - composed and tries to attack. He's going to be a player at AFL level.
Wallis - good to see him hit the scoreboard
JJ - so important to us when he's generating run

A:-
Free kick Hawthorn - some terrible decisions went against us, the Dahl one, Schache mark over the boundary line, Naughton mark to him in front called play on and in the third the same thing to a Hawk inside F50 paid and a goal kicked. Others too I'm sure but these stood out.
The second half, it just got away from us so quickly.

In the first Naughton also took a mark inside the goal line in between the point and goal post yet was given a point.
