Welcome to the Always Right Match Committee Thread. This has been named after a long time WOOF member who tragically passed away in March 2018.

Always Right (https://www.woof.net.au/forum/showthread.php?17881-Vale-always-right)

If you were on the Western Bulldogs match committee what changes would you make for our round 22, 2018 match against Carlton at Etihad Stadium?

As always a brief explanation for your changes would add a lot of value to the discussion.

I would drop Lynch before Jong. But if we had replacements, both would ideally be dropped.

Am I the only one who thought Jong was important for us today

Is Wood right? If so he comes in. Thought he was done for the year with a high tear on the hammy.

Wood said a few weeks ago he will most likely play. Bevo just said on SEN he is likely to come in this week.

I would like to see Lewis Young play before the year is out. Hoping he comes back in for Cordy.

Wood for Lynch is Woody is ready.

In Wood or Young or Collins
Out Cordy (inj)

IMO I wouldn't drop either Jong (who I think was good yesterday and is a required player) nor Lynch who shows some speed and daring, reminds me of Bailey Williams when he started and was potted by some woofers. Give Lynch a bit of rein to see if he will make it.

Surely English for Roughy?

More games into Tim the better.

I think so, especially with no Kreuzer this week.

Lobbe is still a big bodied ruck, doesn't do much else but would be a good match up for Tim to have a run.

This may seem an odd thing to say, but I think Roughie may retire at season's end so I believe Bevo will keep him in the side for the final two games of the year.

I just can't see him playing for another team due to his love of the RWB, and he just doesn't seem capable at present of even being a suitable back up ruck option at another club (considering we are playing Trengove as our first option at present and he is clearly a back up option with the Bulldogs).

This might allow him to move into coaching full time as a result.

He is 28 in November and has played 136 games to date.

I am solely basing this on his actions after Sunday's game where he made a point of singling out all of North's players to shake their hand as if to say good-bye for the last time(?)

Just saying.....

On the call up for Young, did he play ok on the weekend?
I saw the replay with the crappy camera work and he didn't do enough for a call up in what I saw.
Just asking the question as the back line may stay the same with Wood taking Cordy's spot.

Or maybe Rough has agreed to terms to move to North and he was saying “Hi” to his new teammates.

More power to him if that’s the case. I’d never question what he’s given to this club.

First I’ve heard of this. You sure seem to have access to some interesting info Bullies.

I read an article last week that said the Eagles had an interest in ex-Docker Zac Clarke who has gone back to the WAFL this year and performed well.

Media reported yesterday that the Eagles have tabled an offer, ditto the Saints.

The Saints have a huge offer for Lycett though (overs) so I imagine they pull the Roughy deal if Lycett as a FA says yes, which just makes Roughy more important to WCE I imagine.

https://thewest.com.au/sport/west-coast-eagles/jordan-roughead-on-the-west-coast-eagles-radar-report-ng-b88927246z

West Coast are eyeing Western Bulldogs premiership tall Jordan Roughead to bolster their ruck stocks for next season.

Channel Seven’s chief AFL reporter Mark Stevens is reporting the Eagles are preparing for the potential loss of Scott Lycett, who is yet to commit beyond this year and attracting interest from interstate rivals.

If Lycett moves on, it leaves a massive hole in the club’s ruck department with superstar big man Nic Naitanui set to be sidelined for the majority of 2019 with a serious knee.

Naughton can take Mckay, but who plays on Charlie Curnow? Morris? Perhaps Wood in short stints considering how long he's been out?

Shame, Cordy seems like our best match up for Curnow.
I'd imagine Morris and Wood swap although perhaps we just keep our structure so Naughton plays deeper and takes Curnow if he's closer to goal? It's about the zone more than one on one match ups anyway.

Naughton plays deepest, Wood & Morris plays on those that get up higher.

Still wouldn't mind seeing Lewis Young get a crack.

God no, Trengove on Curnow would be the worst matchup I could think of, Trengove is far too immobile. Mckay would be an ok matchup though. Besides Trengove has been great in the ruck the last few weeks. However I'm not against English coming in for Roughy and playing ruck/forward.

They are members of the Failed Bulldogs Fullbacks Support Group. Zeno Tzatzaris founded the group after Piggy Dunstall pantsed him one day.

They've formed a secret cabal. They know things.

Although, I do feel bad poking fun at them. In reality they made it to the pinnacle of their field, which is more than I'll ever do, and weren't quite good enough to stay there. No shame in that.

For sure they got to live my childhood dream. Although I must admit that my childhood dream involved playing in premierships and 300 games, not getting a bag kicked in you by a bloke who only picked a footy up for the first time a couple of weeks before.

SQUAD: Round 22
westernbulldogs.com.au
16 August 2018 6:32 PM

The Western Bulldogs will regain skipper Easton Wood for its Round 22 clash with Carlton on Sunday.

Wood has not played since suffering a hamstring injury in Round 13, and is joined by Lewis Young, Callum Porter, Mitch Honeychurch and Tim English who have been named in the Bulldogs’ extended squad of 26.

The final team will be announced at 5pm on Friday.

Defender Zaine Cordy is unavailable for selection after specialists confirmed a minor fracture to his frontal sinus suffered during last week’s win over North Melbourne.

The Bulldogs have had the better of the Blues recently, winning four of their last five matches between the two sides.

First bounce is at 1.10pm at Etihad Stadium with the match broadcast on Fox Footy from 1.00pm.

Fingers crossed English gets a run, though it looks unlikely given Roughy is named in the starting 18.

Personally, I would have put Wood on ice for the year and played Young for the next 2 weeks, but I'm all about that youth.

Wood for Cordy our only change.

Carlton have brought in the young ruckman De Koning for his debut. Looks like they are going to try and stretch our undersized defence.

Young looks set to go the entire year without a game. The most marks by a KPP on debut since Chris Grant was around him last year, and now missing 21 of 21 games. I think interesting is the word I'm thinking.

Huh, true. Well that's what morphine based pain killers at the time does to one's memory then!

Still, only two games falls into the interesting category. Not a negative or positive, but interesting.

I still have hopes for Young but I think there are a few reasons we haven't seen much of him this year:

1. We have bucketloads of tall defenders.

2. Naughton shot straight past him which probably wouldn't have been expected. Compare Young last year when he started well but finished the year poorly in comparison (not potting him but he had some understandably shocking moments). Naughton on the other hand is playing on the best forwards in the game late in his first season and more than holding his own.

3. His 2 games this year weren't great. I saw him up close in Ballarat against the Suns and he had a couple of moments where we should have gone a bit harder, needs to get that out of his game.

Agreed. I can only guess we think Roughy's free agency stock is likely to rise if he gives him a bath.
