While Everitt's odds aren't great I still might keep an eye on this one.

My money will be going on Everitt & Leuenberger

Surely Ward is excellent value. When Grant is ahead of him you know they probably don't really know who's likely to play.

Given that Rocket has said this year might be a bit tougher for a draftee to debut I'd rule out Ward & Grant.

Luenberger for me too.

I'll go Hislop. Should play a fair amount of the season. Him and Trav Tuck for me.

Cotchin. Given he will be at the Tiges you know he will play the majority of games.
Not sure if bigger players get as many votes as their direct opponents normally have a few years of physical devlopment that talls can't match with pure talent.

Hasn't had much of a pre-season from what I've heard.

Everitt & Leuy will be amongst the top four, most likely. Could certainly mount justified reasons for both to win it.

I wonder how players like Palmer & Cotchin will go. Obviously depends upon game time, but out of the 'new' draftees, they'd have to be leading the bunch.

On a general note, it appears as though second year players rarely are awarded Rising Star, and instead it goes to a decent first year player. Jones was great for Melbourne this year but didn't win it. I wonder if it plays as a disadvantage to Everitt etc., especially if a Palmer/Cotchin etc. can string enough games together and play decent.

I can't see Hawkins getting anywhere near it though.

There will probably be a rookie who really steps up as well.

Hawkins could do some damage with a regular spot now that Ablett is gone. Probably beating up the weaker teams but still.

I wouldn't rule out Grant mate. He will get his debut in 2008.

He might get a debut, but I think TCD was referring to the fact that to be a chance to win this award you would have to play atleast 15 to 18 games. I would think that both Grant and Ward will play some senior footy, but this may be limited to 6 or 8 games.

Thanks Mantis, something like what I would have said.

Argh fair enough thanks for explaining it, I misunderstood the post that was made by Coon Dog. My bad.

The boy from West Footscray!

I noticed that Clayton Collard is still listed as a Fremantle player...

What ended up happening with that? Did he make it back on the list as a rookie or go elsewhere?

Didn't he get picked up in the Rookie Draft by Richmond.

I don't know if I would be willing to put money on him winning the rising star with Fremantle.

I guess my point was it shows how much guess work there is with this group...the guys setting the odds have just plucked names out of a hat, and it really has little to do with who has a chance of winning.

That said, with Ablett out you would think Hawkins will get a bundle of chances, and if he kicks 40+ goals I think that will be enough.
