I will give this a bump every now and then through the year for woofers to understand our hand of draft picks, especially as it relates to securing Josh Kelly with multiple picks and our large spare salary cap.

Currently: (Note: No pick number allocated until after round 1 obviously, when picks are in flux, it cant incorporate free agency compo etc. It's just the natural pick based on ladder positions)

1st Rounder - Pick TBA - WBD
2nd Rounder - Pick TBA - WBD
3rd Rounder - Pick TBA - STK
3rd Rounder - Pick TBA - WBD
3rd Rounder - Pick TBA - HAW
5th Rounder - Pick TBA - WBD

If you want to root, St Kilda & Hawthorn losing is good. Plus us winning obviously.

I’m glad we didn’t give up an early pick for Wingard
Way too flighty for an early pick

(Other interesting trade: Carlton currently swapping pick 1 for pick 12 with Adelaide

Editors note: packaging up the two bonus third rounders out of last year via the Hawks & Saints is roughly 740 draft points, or around pick 26 (resulting in maybe pick 28-30 range). It might be nice if we could find a suitor for a draft points trade to get into the middle of the second round to use or trade with. So leaving picks 7, 25, 28-30, 43 & 79 (plus rookie upgrades and/or free agents) and about $1.6M in cap.

Indirectly. From a seperate trade between Adelaide & GWS. Flowing on from the Setterfield trade between SOS and GWS. In the same way we have Hawks third rounder via GCS & Brisbane.

Carlton aren't going to get any better until the AFL takes over their recruiting and sack SOS. Not that I'm not enjoying watching them going down the tubes.

If we were to land a top 5 pick we will be in a great position to keep building through our youth

I mentioned on another thread I hope we are showing some interest in Hayden Young. There is plenty to play out yes but he's been a quality junior for a couple of seasons

Sam Power got Lloyd for pick 64 (club leading goal kicker etc). Will get Duryea 60+. Demanded Hawks third rounder for an Adam's deal, which looks delightful right now at pick 42 (draft points = Pick 17 for a guy who predictably lost most of the year to injury). Live traded well to secure West and secure St Kilda's third rounder, which is delightful too at pick 40. Used the rule change to pass and come back for a free hit at Hayes and take Khamis as a rookie.

I thought he was excellent last year, but these future picks are even better than hoped for. So even more credit for him. Then he quickly (between trade periods) signs up Bonts, Hunter, Naughton, English, Dunkley, Daniel, Libba etc.

With all these picks and all this salary cap, I have high expectations later this year based on his exposed high competence.

3rd Rounder - Pick 45 - Haw (from)
5th Rounder - Pick 79 - WBD

= 7, 25, 41, 43, 45, 79 (& Duryea for pick 61) (Liveladders End of Season Prediction: 8, 26, 41, 44, 46 & 80)

(Marcus Adams: Pick 32 2018, & currently Pick 45 2019 - equal to just under 1,000 draft points (in play both years) or equivalent to a first round Pick 18 for Adams)
(Other interesting trade: Carlton currently swapping pick 3 for pick 11 with Adelaide - gap is shrinking)
(Other interesting note: The proposed Wingard trade was for the 2019 1st - currently pick 7)

Editors note: packaging two of the third round picks (41 & 43) is roughly 824 draft points, or around pick 23 (resulting in maybe pick 28-30 range). It might be nice if we could find a suitor for a draft points trade (Port Adelaide at pick 28 may be a suitor with their father/sons) to get into the middle of the second round to use or trade with (Port net an extra 147 draft points). So leaving picks 7, 25, 28, 45 & 79 (plus rookie upgrades and/or free agents) and about $1.6M++ in cap.

Thanks AshMac. I only know what ive read, so maybe GVGjr can jump in. But it looks heavy on mids and medium forwards/defenders, and that there's not the elite depth like last year. But I can't really substantiate that.

This surprising run of hot form since the bye has clearly resulted in lower draft picks then we were looking at a couple of months ago. But the red hot form gives us another currency to sell to players and their managers: ongoing success. Which is gold too.

Just a small note:

Essendon being bundled out secures them pick 11 (heading to GWS for Shiel) having finished below us on the ladder.

If we were to lose to GWS our first pick will be pick 12. After our win, I can update the thread after Saturday.

So he went for 2 x pick 11. It's very interesting looking at the outcome of future trades.
GWS got Jye Caldwell with last year's 11. Haven't seen enough of him to judge, but in that draft he's probably good.

Edit : As BT says it's this years second rounder.

I was just talking with someone about this today. If by some miracle we nab keath, bruce and martin, I could see us trading next years first pick instead of this years because we know JUH is there. that of course depends on how highly the club rates the id - i still havent managed to find a highlight reel of him

There’s JUH, MacPherson, Stevens & Raak up as priority access players. We may need around 3,100 points after discounts which is a lot. I mentioned last page a scenario to trade down the first rounder to say pick 19 (985 points) to get some benefit. We won’t get close to 3,000 points without the pick altogether, resulting in a huge deficit. I’m working through how that could work and will hopefully post tomorrow. It’s a good problem to have, but it’s essentially a draft points draft for us next year which means we need the picks (but points trading). I’m sure why Sam Power would get rid of it from a strategic perspective.

I'm really hoping we look at Will Gould from SA. I watched his game against Vic Country earlier this year and this guy is ready to stand up and Round 1, 2020. Through 'n' Through would have more insight into him as a person, but his skillset looks suitable to our backline.

I saw an interview of him and he speaks very well and is related to Darren Glass who at Hawthorn. Weagles supporter and the go home factor may apply to this kid although he said he'd go to anyone who would pick him.
I like the look of him on the little bit of highlights I've seen but would he stay.

With the Suns priority pick.

Dogs: 13, 31, 42, 47, 49 & 85

If Ellis (GCS) & Tomlinson (Melb) result in end of first round compo, and if Elliott leaves with second round compo:

Dogs: 13, 33, 45, 50, 52 & 88

Our current pick 30 on the table for Bruce, stretches out to pick 33.

Pick splitting with Pick (now) 13 to Adelaide 21 & 26 could be picks 24 & 29. Not a viable option.
