Damning news but just seems to confirm that the AFL were very light on with the details of their investigation

Yep. They held an investigation and found out what they wanted to find out. A bit like Sir Humphrey in Yes Minister when he said that you never hold a hearing until you know what the outcome is going to be.

Melbourne were 'sir Humphreyed'

The AFL cannot afford to say yes, the repercussions with the gambling industry would be huge.

I really don't care about this but one thing I can say, Melbourne are a disgrace and If it was my club I would be furious.

Wot? The AFEL prioritises the gambling industry over the ethics of the game?

Say it ain't so.

Little doubt this was a tank with the AFL taking a soft approach to protect its brand. Where was the Melbourne Board when this fiasco was occurring?

I firmly believe their tanking set off a malaise that’s been reflected in their performances ever since. They’ve under achieved with their talent and have more than their fair share of players who are prats and think they’re much better than they actually are. Footy clubs exist to try and win games. Once you tinker with that basic goal, something malignant enters the culture.

Nah Paul Roos fixed it, remember?

Melbourne are such pea hearts it's hard to tell.

Exactly. When you have a choice between a conspiracy and a cock up then go with the cock up.

The thing that's always confounded me is why they tried to tank. Their list at the time was the most devoid of talent of any playing group I can recall. Why not just try and win and be comfortable in the fact that you aren't going to?
