This is the round 19, 2019 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once the game against Fremantle is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

West - Need 20-30 games into him ASAP. Clean, hard, vision, kicks goals.
The first half - was almost faultless
Macrae - a dead set gun.

A

That Morris will likely retire, but he was on the ground in the jumper when it happened.
The second half.
Ed Richards goal kicking - any chance of settling before kicking a behind

Bailey Dale - certainly making a fist of it and putting his hand up for a new contract
Bont's influence - when he impacts a game, and he almost always does, he just makes the game look easy
Our goalkicking in the first half

Anchors
Our goalkicking in the 2nd half
Moz's looking to be over. He looked to be as up to the game as he ever has been too. Heartwrenching to see it come to an end like this
Linked to our goalkicking, but just failing to really nail a team. We could've and should've earned at least another 2-4 percentage points with some better finishing of easy shots.

Bankers
Bontempelli - a master class
Bailey Dale - I was a critic but you can't fault 9 goals in 2 weeks.
Macrae, the most underrated elite midfielder in the comp.

Anchors
Dale Morris' injury, the mere fact that he played is a source of inspiration to these young men and to the whole Club.
16.17 we won by 8 but should have won by 12 or 13, given we need the %.
Their late junk time goals.

Bankers

1. Bont's goal on the run
2. Dale's 4 goals - should have been 5.
3. Westy's goal, ripper first goal.

Anchors

1. Moz doing his knee again. I don't want to see this champion player go out like this.
2. Naughton missing his set shots.
3. Me for writing off Dale early in the year - but happy to be wrong.

Bankers

3. Dale following up from last week with another good performance and even getting a tackle in the forward 50
2. Even though we missed a few simple goals in the second half our goalkicking has improved over the last few weeks.
1. Westy's debut and his goal. I hope the little brothers have his talent.

Anchors

3. Moz. Bugger. Say no more
2. Giving up redtime goals again
That's it. No number 3

Bankers

1. Naughton dominating at CHF like a 26 year old in his prime. He is still 19. His lead up work was as good as it gets. He should of had 3 goals but his kicking let him down.

2. The back 6. They got sucked too high up the ground last week and got opened up with the Saint's fast ball movement. Freo were slower with the ball due to a better defensive structure. The boys down back were tight most od the day.

3. West Jnr. He's a keeper!

Anchors

1. 8.2 in the first quarter and 8.15 for the next 3 quarters.

2. Moz. Such a shame his knee clasped again. He took it like a true champion though.

3. Me not being able to attend. I hate missing wins

I get that some people were underwhelmed by the 2nd half but Freo hasn't been smashed by 8+ goals all year except for the Derby when they kicked horrendously for goal. We were down on rotations so the even 2nd half was understandable.

1. Bailey Dale starting to show his potential. Great to see we have found another option around goal. Seemed to be playing deeper to allow Naughton to play higher.

2. Cordy in the forward line is a positive step. I like his contesting for the ball. This was a key in West's first goal.

3. Our first half was excellent. Clean disposals and good entries into the forward 50. More of that please.

B

1. Moz's injury
2. Not finishing Freo off. Would love to see the day when we can score (near) 150.
3. Not much else. Pretty solid day.

I think that's because this week we are stretching to find 3 anchors, and can all find about 63 bankers.

Dale somehow turned his injury from a big anchor to a big banker, just by his continued involvement in the game. In spite of his own anguish, he continued to coach and direct the players on the bench. I can only imagine the effect on the players who frequented Moz's "coaching box" during the game.

Reality is we still managed 15 scoring shots in the 2nd half.

We kick 10 goals, five behinds instead of 4 goals 11 behinds everyone would be happy.
