This is the round 12, 2020 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once the game against Adelaide is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

Lachie Hunter great to see him back, and impact immediately with his work rate. Think his jumper grab after he kicked his goal puts paid to any trade speculation. If there are issues with Lachie and the club/Bevo, they're clearly not terminal.

2. Bailey Smith - That was impressive. 37 possies and 800 metres gained. He adds a point of difference to our mids when he can run and accumulate like that.

1. Bont - masterful. Did it inside, outside, goal assists, tackled, scored goals.

Anchors

1. Goalkicking could've really filled our boots today, with better goalkicking.

2. English hurting his ankle with 2 minutes to go

3. Gardner's poor marking effort late that led to a goal. Otherwise i thought he'd been okay.

Bont was much more effective out the of the centre when he didn't have the ball this week, you could see it was a real focus area.

B:
Bont - looked rested. Dominated. I thought he did less bullocking work and we benefited greatly. Still a physical presence & made good defensive efforts, but his hands and feet did the talking today.

Naughty - swagger and goals. Honestly, he is the buoy I am clinging to in terms of turning around all the negatives I'm feeling about footy and our coaching dept. a genuine weapon.

Hunter - passion. Needed to see that jumper celebration.

A:
English goal kicking.
The leaky system.
Coverage.

Bont had 34 pressure acts today, our next best was 17*.... He was immense!

* I saw this in twitter so can only take it as being fact.

Agree with all of YHF's bankers so won't repeat.

1. Naughton 6 goals, 6 marks and helped create a couple of more goals with his ground work.
2. Tackle by West on Talia in first quarter to help set up goal
3. Cavarra - 2 goals that could have been 4 very good second game.

Anchors

1. Mclean first half, looked like a lost sheep
2. Dale - when he should have had a shot, tried to find a better option, then turned over the ball by kicking it away from the fwd 50, straight to Adelaide resulting in a goal.
3. Two 5 minute spells (1st quarter, and last quarter) that resulted in 3 goals each time to Crows.

Apart from the outstanding performers in the votes............
Bankers
1. Hunter, a real plus having him back.
2. Macrae, in typical style copped a very heavy knock on his quad, shrugged it off and kept going in his usual efficient manner with 27 possessions.
3. Bailey Williams, becoming a confident and composed defender.

Anchors
Dale, Lloyd and R Smith should not be in the same team, none contribute enough.
Inaccuracy, wasted opportunities, 16-15 should have been 19-12
No back up ruck for English, not Dunkley's fault but the MC is embarrassing this club.

B Naughty and Hunter back ( love naughty’s stare at Talia and Hunter’s jumper tug )
Loved the cohesion of the forward 50 without Bruce ( what do we do with Josh )
Bailey Williams is our most improved player
A. That transition from d50 . It has to improve otherwise we don’t make the next step
Smelt a 80 pt win and we let a few cheapies in
10 goal win . No third anchor

Bankers:
1. Naughton's ability to become a full on forward has me excited, never rotate him back again
2. Cavarra, possibly what we've been looking for? I want to see him get a run of games.
3. Our best midfield has finally played together this year, and it shows.

Anchors:
1. English injury, hopefully he pulls up fine
2. We need to address our turnovers and one-way running, our midfield and defense will get eaten alive by a better team
3. Set shot kicking, should of won that by 100 points.

Bankers:

Bont - unbelievable all game. But in particular when there was a brief moment Adelaide were in the game, he imposed himself with a tackle, handball smother, gather, kick, folllow up and goal.

Bailey WIlliams - has become an accomplished defender. Reads the game well, composed, never fumbles - feel very comfortable when he has got ball in hand.

Naughton - you could just see he was 'on' from the start. Plus straight kicking - where if not for a well timed tackle, he kicks 7 straight.

Anchors:

Bit of greed crept in late. Nothing major, but Williams ran to the 50 and teed off when he had some clear options, Daniel went for the tougher kick when he had McLean on short, Cavarra went for goal when he could have drawn the player and handballed over the top to Bont.

I wasn't a fan of the business of Dunkley rucking. Fair enough if he has to as a one off - but in the D50 - surely Tex's opponent rucks in that situation, not Dunks.

Couple of periods in the game we seemed over zealous in our defensive positioning and got exposed. Melbourne are very good at capitalising on that so we need to sort that out this week.
