Matthew Boyd? Thoughts?

Uncontroversial opinion but Bont should be before him. As many AA's and B&Fs as Boyd but only halfway through his career, and undoubtably a much better player and influential player on the ground, and that isn't an insult to Boyd at all.

West, Griffen, Boyd and Macrae are the next tier, I think I'd put them in that order but it's pretty interchangeable for the most part.

Yep, Bont is the most damaging mid we’ve had. Him being above Boyd was my first thought. Boyd had a brilliant career and was damaging in his own way, but he’s not the class player Bont is and will be. It’s not like Bont’s is a small sample size either. Boyd also played some of his best footy late on when moved to the HBF.

West would be an argument, but he played some of his best footy in the 90’s, so loses out on that score.
Griff and Cooney in the argument for their peaks and Macrae for his consistent output. But they’re a step below Bont.

I Boyd played his best of the HBF as Underdog mentioned.
When he played centre he was one of those players that frustrated me no end in that he would do all the hard work and throw it away with long bombs to no one or a blatant give back to the opposition.
Maybe it's not all his fault as he could of been placing the ball in the forward line for our forward to run on to but the cattle wasn't on the same page.
But in that HBF role he was a general of our defense a repelled a lot of attacks with 2015/2016 being his pinnacle.

Agree on your assessment on Boyd.

Bont is one of the best players we have ever produced and surely is our best mid ever.

West with 7 Sutton medals, 5 x AA's and arguably should have been a Brownlow medalist is the most under rated mid in the AFL.

We have at least 6 better midfielders in our current 22 than Boyd. His game style (as well as the coach’s commitment to it) was reason 1A as to why we were so bad in the early 2010’s.

Gun player for a number of reasons, absolutely laughable Bontempelli not number 1.

Yeah I think Bont claiming three AAs having played in the middle those years more than qualifies him........

I would have picked Bont, Mitchell for Hawthorn & Cousins for West Coast wouldn't have been my picks

Matthew Boyd? Thoughts?

Yeah, nah. Maybe if your editor said "in the off season what would be good is an article about the best mids by club so far this century" and you thought "shit, shit, shit, Bulldogs best mids this century? I'm supposed to be an expert but I haven't really payed much attention to the Bulldog this century. Who are their best mids? Quick, give me a stats sheet. Geez Matty Boyd's numbers are pretty good. Why don't I go against all evidence to the contrary and NOT say Marcus Bontempelli or Scott West?"

At least the article didn't have a picture of Dale Morris. Also lucky Gerard Healy didn't pen the article, otherwise Brad Boyd would have been our selection.

My son got an AFL trivia game for Christmas and one of the questions is "who captained Fitzroy in their last match" The default answer in our house is already Keithy Boyd. It took us 3 days.

Boyd was pretty well canned on WOOF.
WOOFERs did not like his disposal and underrated his other attributes.

He played his best footy in the backline.

I hold him in the highest respect as a player and a leader of our club.
I think it's a missed opportunity that he has joined Fremantle instead of us
