Just looking at the ladder...

If Essendon beat the Cats they will be applying some real pressure on teams at the bottom of the 8 - including Richmond.

Does anyone think they can do it?

I saw they haven't played down at Geelong since 1993!!! How is that even possible??

How is possible that they haven’t played down there in nearly 30 years? You’re familiar with the AFL right?
Beholden to their cash cows at the expense of any equality in the competition.

If it was at the G, I’d give them a much better chance. I think Essendon are capable but the lack of familiarity with Kardinia Park and the ability of Geelong to exploit that ground will probably get them home.

I always remember them playing at the MCG. Wasn't 1993 a premiership for the Bummers. Playing at Windy Hill in those days.

Get this...

Essendon have won 14 finals since they last played in Geelong.

To answer the question, Geelong are VERY gettable but only away from that **** hole. Essendon will constantly kick it OOF or directly to the Cats defenders and Geelong will scrap out a 3-4 goal win.

I reckon Geelong clip them. Dons style is somewhat reckless and they won’t have access to the corridor as is their preference. They (Essendon) are also unbelievably unaccountable which plays right into the Cats overpossessive style.

On paper - yes.
Realistically - no.

Essendon still haven't beaten anyone in the top 12 this year although they pushed Melbourne very hard. They have a quality ruck (Draper) who Geelong can struggle with. Geelong are just too hard to beat at their weird shaped hovel though.

Dons beat the Eagles in Perth.

At the Dome absolutely but not down at that hole in the Earth.

Us and them at the Dome is a bigger danger game than many will think.

100% they can especially with their run

That's what I'm thinking.

Duncan is out and he is an excellent runner...Dons are covering the ground well and coulda/shoulda beat Melbourne.

Geelong looked SO BAD last week...I know Brisbane are good and the Gabba is hard but goodness that was a hiding.

I'm actually hoping for a Giants win this week as well (but please don't tell anyone on this board...I hate the Orange but a loss to Melbourne helps us big time).

Bombers defence is a bit like ours. Will be interesting to see how they man up on Hawkins, Cameron and Rohan. Essendon certainly have the run, and they have good marking ability to hopefully not get out marked in their fwd 50, but the cats experience at that hole will prevail. Selwood/danger need to be held and I feel Stringer will once again have to pull it out his ass to get them home. Cox and Jones will need big games too…and Hooker needs to kick straight if given opportunities.

Essendon, no chance down there. Geelong hardly ever lose at home, although they beat Lions and us by less than a goal.

I tend to agree. I think Geel will do it quite easily, but would love to see Essendon knock them off. Let’s see if the bombers learnt anything from the footage of our game. (Don’t kick it to you know who ).

Very true, and his opponent has to make him accountable from the scoreboard perspective.

Geelong look done. Very poor start following the insipid effort in Brisbane.

The lack of awareness for Dangerfield to get run down by Devon Smith was so unusual.

Post aged well.

Essendon bus heavily loaded with passengers.
