Not rocket science considering Melbourne lockdown is through to September 2nd and the AFL probably want crowds

bulldogtragic
16-08-2021, 11:24 PM
The issue is quarantine and how to make it fair to the players. The bye would've given all player enough time to head into the finals with something like a normal preparation.

Say we get the Thursday game. Whstever the result the 23 plus extras head straight interstate and live in a lockdown resort unable to do much until playing Thursday.

Got to be a better way.

Not ideal, but as long as it is against anyone aside Port/WC (the latter unlikely to make it) it will be the same for all teams.

Luckily the only way we can get Port in the first week is if we are the home team (if we beat them this week, Melbourne beat Geelong, and Geelong drop more % than Port).

What an advantage they'll have over the VIC/NSW clubs not having to be in lockdown.

Daniher is having a brilliant year. Think he just kicked a goal, so that's a goal every round.

I forgot when it was being played. They should get them by about 100 if they stay on the job.

So I just can’t see Carlton winning. So it’s almost certain to be Essendon at Adelaide next week.

It seems we cannot be tortured enough. However, the reality is we only have ourselves to blame. There is only one way to approach this. It's a new 8 team season and we have a big opportunity to redeem ourselves and prove something to the football world. Are we up for it? I think we are and the preparation has started now. If we fail this test then we have spent an entire year achieving ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Harsh? No. We have not won a final since Oct 1, 2016. If sudden death doesn't motivate us then nothing will.

angelopetraglia

Less than a minute to go, three Eagles around the ball. That duck into that tackle that was called high ... what a ridiculous call. He literally ran at the man and created the contact. Seriously, even if the umpiring was even 80% wrong the Lions still don't win. They needed it to be 100% wrong. How many frees in a row did they get to finish off the game? How many?

We have not played Essendon in a final since 1953. For the record, we won by 8 points at the MCG played in front of 69,000 fans. It was the first semi final. We lost to the Cats in a prelim the next week (for the record, we have lost our last 7 finals to Geelong).

And Freo the week before :)

Their last 3 :

Freo 54 Lions 118
Lions 142 Pies 57
Lions 125 Eagirls 87

Seriously and it came down to 1 point with 20 seconds to go.

They had to make up 10 percent in their last 3 games. They were 124.6 after rd 20.

I don't get their setup. They sit deep, and try to burst through but they don't have any forwards. Oliver gets 90 possessions a game and goes nowhere.

Remember the game in Tassie that was allowed to continue even though there was a time-keeping/ umpiring error? How was that settled.

Let's get Gordon Legal onto this.

The AFL siren controversy (dubbed Sirengate) surrounded the conclusion and result of an Australian rules football match played on 30 April 2006 during Round 5 of the Australian Football League's 2006 season. The match was played between the St Kilda and Fremantle Football Clubs at Aurora Stadium (then the sponsor name of York Park) in Launceston, Tasmania.

When the final siren sounded, Fremantle were leading by one point; however, the umpires did not hear the siren, and play continued for around 10 seconds, during which time St Kilda scored a point to tie the match. Four days later, the AFL Commission determined that the match should have been ended when the first siren sounded. As a result of this, St Kilda were stripped of their last behind as well as the two competition points for a draw that they had received. The victory and the full four points for a win were awarded to Fremantle.

It was only the second time in VFL/AFL history that the score and result of a game was changed on protest, with the first occurring 106 years earlier.

Was going to post about this earlier - according to the radio coverage it happened twice in the last quarter, though I can't find the 2nd instance on the video coverage. Normally the AFL have 3 timekeepers - 1 from each team and a neutral, but with COVID and in Brisbane they most likely had Lions timekeepers only.

If Gordo was still president I reckon he would be on the phone to the AFL Monday morning - unfortunately our current president has been invisible since being appointed.

They penalise that for time wasting and that's fine, but they never penalise time wasting when players remonstrate or not give the ball back to the opposition after an infringement and it slows the game down.

So all in all another inconsistency that doesn't really make sense.

Then we have to listen to the media go on and on and on about the bloody live ladder and actively barrack for Brisbane to get into the top four. I don’t subscribe to the theory the fix was on it that game or our game but gee the umpiring is confusing.

Instead of celebrating and embracing the fact we have made another finals series we are all left underwhelmed, frustrated and helpless with what will actually transpire over the next week or two or three and hopefully four.

Yeah, that’s the more likely path but here’s hoping.

I don’t overly rate Port but Geelong without Stewart is a much lesser team so Port probably do get through. Port have had a massive leg up on the other top 8 sides, with little Covid interruption and their reserves team playing every week.

It would be nice for Fremantle to get a wriggle on and at least put the fear of missing in Essendon. We want them to play panicked, error riddled, taxing footy.

If Fremantle go down it takes the pressure right off. Hell, they can even limit time for the sore bodies, give others extra exposure etc. and play a completely bruise free game.
