"They all mean something - we act like that don't but they do....Marcellus knew it, she knew and Antwan shoulda known better...."

Everytime I hear the MFC players and supporters deny the significance of them playing/dancing to 'Freed from Desire' on the ground (on the ground) after the GF it reminds me of this scene.

I would actually 100% understand it if they did it to rub our players noses in it - but if that's the case, say it's the case. OWN IT. Don't say 'it was one of 20 songs we played' or 'we always do that'. Say "look, there was bad blood after we played them at the G earlier in the year and we don't like them. We saw that stupid dance they did to make it in...we wanted to remind them that there is a time to celebrate and 'getting there' is not that time.

As to the public reaction which I think they (MFC) would all have liked to avoid - particularly with their president talking up their great culture in the aftermath of the Goodwin scandal - well, after the leaked video (very silly btw) from the week before with the Dog's players celebrating and dancing to that song, they had to know it would feel like they were taking a shot (or two). And if they didn't know it would seem that way (to the Dogs and the public), well, just like Tony Rocky-Horror, they 'shoulda' known.

I'm actually not sure if our players:
a/. Are in the sort of form needed to hand out the belting they want to hand out.
b/. Have the requisite 'attitude' to want to take revenge 'Marcellus' style.

The reality is though, an OVER-Reaction (aka throwing Antwan off the roof and through the green-house) is what is required here. Melbourne should be expecting a reaction - they deserve a reaction. I hope they get the over-reaction I think they deserve. Yep - they were 19 points down and kicked 16 goals to 1 from that point, and winners are grinners and losers can please themselves and all of that...but there is/was absolutely no need to rub anyones face in it the way that they did.

Tomorrow's game shouldn't be close. Dogs by 54.

The song isn’t the issue it is the lack of humility shown but we are being painted as caring about the song. I would have hated it if I was a Melbourne supporter or official, the footy gods are real and they hate this stuff.

I have called it out when our own players have shown similar behaviour in the past eg: Bailey Smith to Ziebell and Bont/Dunks to Phil Davis,

But never off the field - big difference

Melbourne players are unsportsmanlike and not very humble.

Here is the background: (https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/teams/melbourne-demons/afl-2022-angus-brayshaw-on-trade-rumours-to-west-coast-eagles-fremantle-dockers-melbourne-demons-free-agency-out-of-contract-max-gawn-whispers-news-latest/news-story/6bf630d2b1cf4e5eddbda56d43f7a6b7?recommendedCount=0)

Players from Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs reportedly almost came to blows at a Perth nightclub just days after this year’s AFL Grand Final.

The Demons thumped the Bulldogs by 74 points late last month to claim their first premiership since 1964.

Speaking on his new podcast with triple premiership Lion Jonathan Brown and Dean ‘Deano’ Thomas, premiership Hawk Campbell Brown said there’d been ample tension between the two clubs – both on and off the field – before, during and after the Grand Final.

Brown claimed it stemmed from the two clubs’ heated Round 19 clash at the MCG, in which the Bulldogs won by 20 points. He said some Dogs players “absolutely gave it to some players from Melbourne” post-game after it became “heated and a bit personal” during the match.

But Brown said what really sparked the tension was when Demons players linked arms and sang ‘Freed from Desire’ – the same song Bulldogs players were seen dancing to after their preliminary final win over Port Adelaide – in the middle of Optus Stadium following their premiership triumph. Brown claimed the Dees did it to “stick it up them (the Dogs)”.

A few days after the game, the two teams arrived at the same Perth nightspot, according to Brown, who claimed things threatened to boil over.

“On the Monday night or Tuesday night after they’d celebrated for a few days, the Doggies players had gone to this nightclub. There was three levels to this nightclub: The ground floor was for the public, they (the Dogs) had booked Level 2 and Level 3 was not open,” Brown told Browny’s Podcast.

“The Melbourne boys had had a few and they decided ‘we’re feeling OK’ … so the boys gather the troops and go to this club … Management say: ‘It’s great to have you guys here and we’ll accommodate you, but the Dogs have got Level 2, so you’re going to have to just meander here with the GA (general admission).’

“So one of the players took some initiative … took some cash out, a big lot of cash like $10,000, and went up to management and said: ‘Mate, here’s 10K, you open the top level.’ Security escort them straight up.

“Now they’re at this club, Level 3, the Doggies are on Level 2 – remember they hate each other – they’re hanging over the rails and giving it to the Doggies boys. It’s getting real heated, real personal.

“It didn’t come to blows because a player from Melbourne and a player from the Western Bulldogs that are best mates and used to live together … they met halfway between Level 2 and Level 3 – safe ground – and negotiated a peace treaty … Saved these two clubs coming to blows.

“That’s my mail on the ground in Perth and it’s factually correct.”

Brown’s anecdote comes days after Melbourne declared it wanted to open its 2022 season with a Grand Final rematch against the Bulldogs at the MCG and unveil its premiership flag in front of its home fans.

“I’m looking forward to Round 1 next year … Melbourne, Doggie, Round 1 – rivalry born,” Brown said.

We should be out to beat them because they beat us in the GF. It shouldn't matter if they danced to toot toot chugga chugga big red car afterwards.

It's my understanding that singing that song goes back to our rise in 2015-2016. If that's the case, there are a few points here:

1. It was never a song directed at other teams or hubris - it was a celebration of great wins. It was about joy, not spite. And not about denigrating any one opponent. In that context it was arrogant of the Dees to do so. I'd equate it to, if after 2016, we mocked Sydney's Bloods culture and stood in the middle of the MCG sneering at it. The Dees showed disrespect when nothing untoward on the field had happened to warrant it.

2. I never really saw it as all that terrible that the footage (after the Port PF win) leaked - for the above reasons. We'd been on the road forever, and had achieved a stirring win.

3. I think the Dees were much more unlikeable in their win, than we were in 2016. That song was a petty example of their arrogance. (Of course, I would say that, but I don't remember behaviour from Richmond, Hawthorn, other recent premiers of that ilk). If you want to feel riled up about their smugness, any read of social media, where there is lots of hilarity about 'the bathroom break' goals that won the match, will do the trick.

Winning tomorrow night is essential for our pride. It will never revenge 2021, even if we win the next 3 flags (I would however like to be put to the test on this statement ;), can someone please bookmark it). It's just necessary to show we stand for something as historically, our reactions to this sort of needle have been poor e.g. the taunting of JJ, allowing ourselves to be bullied by GWS. It does worry me that we have no-one currently on our list with the mongrel and desperation of some of the 2016 mob - that moment when Clay Smith laid that unbelievable bump on Griffen stands out - what if someone had done that to stem those 'toilet break' goals?

Urgggh, must I relive it? ..the three goals that turned the match, in some awful amount of seconds are described fondly by Dees fans as the Toilet Break Goals, as in by the time you resumed your seat, the match, and the premiership, were gone.

First time I saw it was at the Astor in St Kilda with a couple of junkie mates-what can I say? I was literally living on another planet back then.

Anyway after the scene when Vincent shoots up in Lance's room I looked across and they were both sitting back in their chairs with their eyes closed and huge smiles on their faces.

Drum roll…..and your top 2?

To keep this footy themed movie references I really like 3 colours trilogy by Kristof Krylowski (might have spelt that wrong). Red, white, blue although being French blue came first-IMO the best of the 3 movies. Long time ago now but then so is Pulp Fiction (an excellent flick too that garners bonus points for making young folks interested in rhe great Dusty Springfield.

Hope we bash & crash them but mostly just want a win. I’m not too fussed about their copy cat dance.

Seeing as how absolutely nobody has asked about my top five. Casablanca, Pulp Fiction, Dogs in Space, Twelve Angry Men and either Withnail and I or Rosencratz and Guildendstein Are Dead.

Oh and Terminator 2.

I reckon Aliens is just a bloody great movie, one of my faves - made on a shoe string. Producers demanded 2 females & that’s how Signory Weaver got the gig. 5th choice director Ridley Scott gets the gig after mostly or solely directing ads and movie history is made.

Go Dogs - let’s stick it right up ‘em. (Bevo could play Chopper Read with his mo in a remake).

Here's a clip from one of my favourite films, 'Wages of Fear". This is dubbed in German but it doesn't matter - you'll get the drift.

If you don’t know the film the plot is: Four desparadoes trapped in South America when the constuction project they're on goes belly up. They get a chance to get back to Europe when a fire breaks out an an oil well, across the mountains, operated by an American company, the Southern Oil Company (read Rockefeller's Standard Oil here). The deal is drive these loads of nitro glycerine to the well site and blow up the fire. Risk your life for $2000 and freedom.

Film was a French/Italian collaboration directed by George Clouzot starring Yves Montand and Charles Vanel.

I remember being at the footy in the mid 80's with my dad. I was too young to be able to read but when they lifted their banner the crowd laughed that evil laugh of melbournes entitled elite and the rest groaned in disgust. He told me the banner read "Lets beat the bulldogs then worry about the good teams"

i asked him about it last weds - he couldnt remember - and in honesty im not sure if he paraphrased or thats what it said. would love it if anyone remembers as I've hated them as a football club since that day and it was 30+ years ago.

it was definitely the 80's and the game was at the MCG.
