Just to jolt a few memories ... all of them bad ... it was round 16 2007 when everything went pear shaped for the Western Bulldogs last year.

Unfortunately there are a few similarities between round 16 2007 and round 16 2008 ... well one anyway ... we are playing against the same opponent, Geelong ...

This goes without saying, but this week's game is very important to us, not only for the foundation of our finals campaign, but also to 'right a few wrongs' from the end of the 2007 season.

Not that we want to remember them, but here are the scores of the last seven rounds

Round 16 Geelong 20 . 18 (138) V Western Bulldogs 9 .9 (63)
Round 17 Western Bulldogs 9 . 17 (71) V West Coast Eagles 24 . 14 (158)
Round 18 Western Bulldogs 12 . 13 (85) V St. Kilda 12 . 13 (85)
Round 19 Melbourne 19 . 15 (129) V Western Bulldogs 12. 15 (87)
Round 20 Adelaide Crows 15 . 17 (107) V Western Bulldogs 11 . 17 (73)
Round 21 Western Bulldogs 10 . 7 (67) V Hawthorn 22 . 19 (151)
Round 22 Western Bulldogs 14 . 9 (93) V Kangaroos 23 . 19 (157)

Round 16 2008 ... Time to shine !!

Does anyone think that this repeat round 16 encounter with Geelong and how our season derailed last year post that meeting will be used as motivation?

It is great knowing that we have completely turned around our performance on field and I think that there would be no better way too show this, than to beat Geelong on Saturday.

Our motivation should be what lies ahead and not what happened 12 months ago. We can't let ourselves be too concerned with what we can't control. The end of last season does not impact on how hard we go at the next contest. What determine's how hard we are is knowing you can walk off the ground at the end of the game and look your team mates in the eye and say "I gave it my best effort today" and knowing that the other 21 guys will respect you for that. That should be enough motivation for us.

That was my Dr Phil moment for today. Thank you.

Ah well at least if we lose every game from here we'll still make the finals.

Could there possibly be a greater switch in fortunes between 2 teams within 12 months?

How good were the Eagles looking at that stage? Judd, Kerr and Cousins all up and running.

Look at the side from this time last year...you will find a large number of personnel differences.

As I stated at the beginning of this thread, it was round 16 in 2007 against Geelong when things went pear-shaped.

Round 16 2007 Geelong 20 . 18 (138) def. Western Bulldogs 9 .9 (63)

Round 16 2008 Geelong 19 . 17 (131) def. Western Bulldogs 10 . 10 (70)

Unfortunately, there are too many similarities in this score line.

But it will be the way we deal with this game now that will show exactly what kind of team we are. We need to bounce back against Carlton and start playing our brand of footy again ... Geelong stifled our run in the second half and pressured our ball carriers.

We need to find ourselves and our game next week, or we are looking down the barrel of a fifth or sixth finish which means playing interstate finals.

Ah well at least if we lose every game from here we'll still make the finals.

The problem is if we do lose every game from here, we will only be making up numbers in the finals.

We have the team to make a real dent in the finals ... and we have the foundations of a good season to date ... but NOW IS THE TIME TO SHINE ... our finals campaign starts next week against Carlton.

Game On !!

I want us to beat Carlton next week, yes.

But I want them hurting after today so that we don't ever play absolute garbage football like that again.

It was a big day for the club and they failed miserably.

Up to them to turn it around immediately.

Sorry but it really starts to become annoying these comparisons to last year in regards to "history repeating itself". There are a significant no. of differences as already stated. Let's just move on.

That is exactly what i am saying ... i am just using comparison to make my point ...

We have had a great start to the year (unlike rounds 1 - 15 last year) ... we need to put this round behind us and look to build on our good season

The name of the thread is History Doesn't Repeat ... next week is where this starts !
