Irene Chatfield Awarded Life Membership

At tonight's AGM President David Smorgon awarded Irene Chatfield with Life Membership of the club.

Irene was visibly emotional as she accepted her framed certificate. She said she had always followed the club & thanked all the players who have proudly worn the red, white & blue.

In 1989 Irene mortgaged her house to pay legal costs as she took on & with the help of the community, defeated the then VFL's plan to merge Footscray & FItzroy.

A popular decision tinight.

While I was watching the EDHID DVD is was thinking to myself, surely Irene is a life member of the club.

I am surprised it has taken this long, but glad that she has know been recognised for her contribution to the club.

I don't think there could be too many more worthy recipients than her.
