Cannot wait until Saturdays game - was coming home on the train from the Storm game on Saturday night - the first thing I asked a Bulldogs supporter was if BJ made it through the game ok (unfortunately I already knew the score). Brad Johnson thoroughly deserves to be our games record holder, as did Chris Grant, Doug Hawkins & EJ Whitten before him. Hope we can have a big win to properly celebrate this amazing achievement!!

Also, thanks for the great Johnno photos & stats bornadog. :-)

Just spoke with Mark Klieman who was the Bulldog's Recruiting Manager from 1992-98.

He watched Johnno play 10 times during 1993 & viewed countless hours of video. He felt Johnno's strength was that he was able to run games out & was still going as hard at the end of games as he was at the start. Also impressed with his ability to mark overhead. Slight concern was he didn't always hit targets by foot.

Terry Wheeler had said that the brief was to select a 'good fast hard running player' with our first selection.

In all honesty Mark said he expected Johnno to be well & truly gone by the time our first selection came around at pick #11 & couldn't believe he was still available.

Mark said it was also terrific that he was a local kid who got to play with the club he grew up barracking for, breaking Chris Grant's record is a great effort & what he's achieved is a credit to him.

Awesome for Brad to get to where he is right now, im sure Bubba will be warching in the stands on Saturday, and all other bulldog chams, hopefully we get a big big crowd for Johnno(doubt it tho).

Lets just hope the guys can put in a great performance and get the doggies over the line.

Saturday can't come quick enough..

Absolute quality player, best overhead mark for his size I can recall. It seems like just yesterday watching the skinny No 33 with that funny short step running action, blazing across the grass at the Western Oval. I used to have his first game on tape, but its long gone unfortunately.

Will his record be beaten , (whatever number he ends up playing) in future, given the physical toll, the modern game takes on players bodies and minds?

I really doubt his record will broken, however many games he ends up playing. (Could be 350 this year if we get to the Grand Final the hard way!!) Gotta wonder how many Granty would've played without those bloody injuries. Would love to see Johnno get to 400, but it's another 3 seasons........

I remember when Johnno first started out in 94. He was courageous and hard as an 18 year old - but had no idea how to protect himself - and used to spend a lot of time coming off the ground with a sore head. He has always been fearless, competitive and has willed us over the line on many more occasions than most would remember.

For me - he is behind only Chris Grant of players I have seen at the Bulldogs.

Well done Johnno. Its been our pleasure to be able to watch his career so closely. He brings to the team exactly what you expect a captain to bring. Definatly the best Footscray/Western Bulldogs captain I've seen in my time, and there is some pretty good competition. Can't wait to see how the boys react to that poor performance the other night. The saints were good and probably would have beaten us anyway, but that wasn't how we normally play. Come on Doggies, Do it for Johnno (and me).

According to my calculations Johnno has played 341 out of a possible 362 since being drafted by the Club.

If you narrow that figure down to games played since his debut in Round 18 1994, it's 341 out of a possible 345.

Amazing.

What a star.

This week we celebrate Brad Johnson’s record breaking 342nd game. Johnno will become the new Club record holder, breaking the previous record of 341 games, held by Chris Grant.

Born locally in Hoppers Crossing, it seems that becoming part of the Red, White and Blue was ‘destiny’ for Western Bulldogs Captain, Brad Johnson.

Drafted in 1994 from the local Williamstown team, the Bulldogs would never have imagined the impact the ‘Smiling Assassin’ would have over the coming years, both on and off the field.

Since his debut the list of achievements is long, illustrious and includes:

• 3 Club Best and Fairest, as well as multiple runner up awards
• Leading Club goal kicker 2005-2008
• All Australian 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2006 (captain) and 2007
• Western Bulldogs Captain for over 3 years
• Best Club Person 1996 & 1998
• Picked in the Western Bulldogs Team of the Century

Over the past 15 years, Johnno has secured his place in the history of the Western Bulldogs (formally Footscray) Football Club, and it is with great pleasure we celebrate his Club record breaking 342nd game.

Johnno is highly respected and viewed a dedicated champion of not only the Club, but the game. He has more than proved himself, not only as a legend of the game, but as an admiral character, a great role model and an integral part of the current playing groups success on field and development off field.

Always wearing a smile, Johnno acts with integrity and we take great pride and delight in celebrating his record breaking milestone of 342 games.

Continuing a Western Bulldogs tradition current record holder Chris Grant and previous record holder Doug Hawkins will enter the playing field with Brad prior to the match.

As part of the celebrations the team will wear a commemorative Guernsey, and the Club will hold an official after match function, which will be held in the Victory Room on Level 1 and is open to all EJ Whitten Social Club members. (WOOFERS SEE YOU THERE)

There is also an opportunity to own a piece of history, with a range of official commemorative merchandise available for purchase from Bulldogs Central at Whitten Oval and Water Gardens or online at Bulldogs Direct. Merchandise includes a replica Guernsey, T-Shirt, Polo Shirt and Hat.

There will also be a range of online Auctions, including the Commemorative Guernsey worn by 'Johnno' during the game. So for your chance to secure a piece of priceless Club history visit Bulldogs Direct after the game.

People often forget that while Johnno was delighting us with his footballing feats he was also rising through the ranks of the Navy. Now that really is an admirable achievement!

My one trip to Melbourne this year was to see the Hawthorn match- who would go all that way to watch Fremantle?! Now I wish I could count, because I'll be the lone voice amongst Freo supporters, but I'll be proudly yelling for Johnno. What a terrific player and a great bloke. Right up there with the best the game has ever produced.

I was living in Brisbane for a while and in Johnno's first year (I think) I went to the Gabba to watch the game (we won in the last minute, thanks to Hawk and Johnno) and had the priviledge of taking Arthur Edwards (1954 player) with me to the game, I was amazed to see this skinny kid with the rosy cheeks running non-stop back and forward from the wing and as I recall Arthur said to me when I asked about Brad, "that this kid would be a club champion one day" and I must say I have enjoyed watching Arthur's prediction come true as I am sure all doggies fans would . Brad is a legend of our club and deserves the games record just as the other champion game record holders before him have done. Well done Brad.

Just a little clarification.

One of my criticisms of Rocket was that he actually appointed Luke Darcy as captain after Granty.

Johnno only became captain after Luke did his knee.

He's given us so many great memories - his heroics in his 300th game last year was undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable moments of my life.

Johnno is an absolute legend of the game, not only on the ground, but off it as well. I have met him twice now and he is an awesome person to speak to. One of my friends, who is a North supporter was talking to him in his local supermarket one day for a good ten minutes or so, and he told me how much he liked Johnno, he said he is his favorite outside of his beloved Roo boys. He really enjoyed his chat with him.

I have heard that so many times that people who follow other clubs have Johnno as their fave player from the opposition clubs. I know a few personally.

Knees were gone, body not up to it.

The thing about Johnno, he has been lucky with his fitness.
And it goes to show how one injury at that age can end a career so suddently. Prior to Westy last injury, he had no siginificant injury and then got one and it was all over.
Hopefully Johnno does not have the same misfortune and retires on his terms.
