8.36pm Boumann is chewing his steak

8.38pm Boumann just looked at me looking at him

8.42pm Boumann continues chewing

8.46pm Boumann just sipped his drink and gave me a funny look

Except I'd have Dale Morris winning.

Just kidding.
Boyd for sure.

I hope Boydy wins it as well, he has had a terrific year, very professional. It also shows the eveness in the team at the moment, for years you could back it in that Westy was taking home the chocolates, now we are starting to get a bunch of boys with B&F's.

Go easy Comrade

The last thing your project needs is a law suit, and the last thing the player needs is to be too pleased with his year.

1. Lake
2. Boyd
3. Harbrow

I think the top 2 pick themselves and going by TCD's voting chart it could be a very closely run race.

It would be a great achievement for Harbrow to finish in the top 3 and just reward for a terrific year. You would have gotten all sorts on odds for this happening at the start of the year so all plaudits must go to Jarrod.

No Barry hall although we do have a board member of that name. No news on brian. James fantasia was not present. He was in sa with his sick father. Brian seemed happy although I may be Reading things into that were said. There seem a lot mentions of people needing to make sacrifices for the team. Could they be talking about brian. I might be just a bit paranoid.

Rapt that Boydy won the B&F.

Interesting that Lake wasn't in the top 10 at the halfway mark but he did come home strongly.

Ooh and there was NO mention on the night of Brian's contract negotiations but there was a strong emphasis by David in his speach of Team over any individual. My take on the evening is that I would've felt pretty awkward sitting through the night if I was in the Lakes' shoes based on the theme coming through.

Cross/Morris a little suprising.

Perhaps they are victims of their own incredibly high standards, but I was also under the impression that both had not performed as well as they have in previous seasons. I guess this just reflects the nature of the beast though - we don't really know players roles, how hard they have worked during a game and what injuries they may have been playing with.

Not a bad top 10 by any means.

Would love to know how the votes went in the finals for those that attended?

I think they said that there was about 900 present. Smorgon spoke about the fightback 20 years ago and how far the club has come. Rocket spoke about the team ethic and culture of the playing group and how it had developed and how success was not far away.

Rocket also spoke of the courage of the players and how selfless they are - which is why our goals are kicked by so many players and we didn't have leading Brownlow votes. It was just very much on the idea of the "team". And as mentioned, we're not too far away.

Eade also mentioned how very few Teams get to have what we have in terms of working for each other. He really did sing praise on the playing group for the season and especially for their effort in the Prelim.

After Boydy was announced winner David Smorgon took the microphone again this time impromptu to single out the ethic of the top 3, Boyd, Cross and Morris, stating that it wasn't by chance that these 3 were the ones that finished where they did. At this moment I couldn't help but feel for the remaining players on the list as I'm sure they also have their story to tell on the struggles of getting where they have. I thought David was out of line with this speach. His earlier planned speach though I thought was inspiring as they often are.

And not wishing to be too picky but did think it was pretty poor that the table with the Lakes', Cooneys', Shaggy & Skip stayed seated whilst the majority at least stood to give a standing ovation to Boyd on announcement on winning the award.

I thought Boyd made a telling remark in his acceptance speech. Sandy Roberts said something along the lines of "you're well known to be very competitive, you'd argue with anyone to get your point across" and Boyd said "I've got my opinions and I make them known. I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to win a premiership". I think it suprised the crowd, and everyone applauded.

If Boyd is made captain after Johnno, he won't be taking any shit from the playing group, I'd imagine.

We've got quite a long casualty list this pre-season, with a number of guys going through a long rehabilitation lay off (Murph, Picken, Red etc).

Hopefully we can get as many right as possible in preparation for round 1, but I'd be expecting a slow build up next season.

Also, well done to Liam - he got a massive cheer on the night, and is highly rated by all.
