Good marketing by the bombers during a slow news period.

It is good marketing but how they have put Jobe on a pedestal is funny. I heard them say he has great disposal??? To be B&F I would have thought they had a crap year yet they made finals. I see them sliding.

A big day for the Dons. It's not often clubs get the son of a star player also leading the club.

Has Ablett junior been given the top job at the Cats yet?

I bet Eddie looked at it & wondered why Collingwood didn't do it.

Personally I'm with RM, I felt it was over the top, but if you criticise Jobe near Bombers fans its like shooting Bambi, so they'll lap it up.

I payed out on all the Essendon supporters when they were carrying on about the captaincy selection. No one buys into the hype more than idiot Essendon supporters.

I can't see them making the 8 personally.

Definitely, they had some 3000 supporters there - good luck to Jobe.

Seems like a nice kid and should make a good captain.

Yes, I agree - no doubt Timmy Watson would be extremely proud of him as he should! :)

Didn't see a great deal, just Jobe walking out onto the oval...Without seeing it, I reckon a "son of" captain being appointed is fairly special. I wish him luck - seems like an OK fella.

Just imagine the hype when Jack Johnson takes over as Bulldogs skipper...

I'm actually surprised there has not been more of a carry on about the Carlton pair who were banned from the Crown for their behaviour over ther weekend? ;)

Well done to Jobe, sure he'll do the Bombers proud.

I think there has been a front page story in the tabloid daily[Let's face it any remote AFL drama makes it] Just good to see A couple of the cheats players filling in for the dimwit full forward:D:D

IIRC Harvey and Alan Stevens are still the only F/S combo to captain a league club. Harvey was Footscray captain in the late '50s and Alan was our skipper in the late '20s.

Harvey is Daniel Talia's grandfather.

Laurie Nash captained South Melbourne in 1937, his father, Bob captained Colllingwood in 1908/09.

Charlie Pannam captained Collingwood in 1905, his son Alby captained Collingwood in 1945.

And captained Footscray in 1910/11 as well.

1953. Frank Tuck, the father of Michael Tuck who captained Hawthorn, was captain in 1958. He missed the GF through injury (the unlucky bastard misssed the '53 flag as well due to injury) and Murray Weideman was the premiership captain.
