Hawks name Wayde Skipper for practice match

HAWTHORN has picked former Western Bulldogs fringe player Wayde Skipper for its final practice match as it tries to solve its ruck woes.

Skipper, who will have to be elevated from the rookie list if he is to play in the home-and-away season, is part of the Hawks' 26-man squad to play a virtual full-strength Brisbane in Southport on Friday.

Yes, hope he goes well. I was watching out for him in their game v Tigers and he whacked Delidio and hurt his arm! :o

Don't take this the wrong way, but who cares?

An ex player of our picked for a practice game. If it was a newspaper you'd say it was a slow news day.

Surely if its worth posting then the AFL Talk forum is the appropriate spot, Bulldogs Unleashed is for matters relating to the Bulldogs (got in before PWebb too!).

I blame you for this Sockeye, you started it earlier this week posting about an ex coach in this forum! ;)

I think Skipper is going to find himself at the right place at the right time. Surely the Dawks will elevate him and he will play 15-20 games this season.

I have a soft spot for Skip, have to respect a guy who gives his all and doesn't seem to complain or make a fuss.
I hope he plays all 22 games this year for the Hawks ;)

I feel the same way. He could have bitched and moaned about not getting a game last year but he put his head down and kept working. Honestly he is one of the very few player who I have hoped did well after they left the club.

With Taylor and Campbell gone, Skipper could well end up playing a large role for the Hawks this year.

Looks like the Hawks have lost another bigman in Roughead going down with a knee injury

Doesn't look serious and won't stop him from playing round one.

Poor Skipper. He seems to be out for 6-8 weeks with a hamstring injury :( http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/hawks-lose-another-ruckman/story-e6frf9jf-1225842008848

That sucks. Thought he had finally caught a break with everyone around him going down at the Hawks. Was probably in line for elevation off the rookie list too. Rats.

What the hell are Hawthorn gonna do now? I feel just as sorry for Renouf as I do for Skipper, he's gonna have absolutely no support.

I'm afraid I don't share your sentiments.

One must really question the technique the Hawks used for their Ruck training :). I do feel sorry for Skipper but he now play for the competition and we should treat him as such :)

I feel for Skipper, but find it very laughable that Hawthorn are in so much injury woes already! Looks like they aren't going to be a threat again.

Going to have to change my SC rucks now!

Bad luck for poor old Skipper, just can't seem to catch a break. Would have been a terrific opportunity for him.
