WITH the backing of coach Ross Lyon, St Kilda's Zac Dawson is set for a rematch with Western Bulldogs forward Barry Hall.

Hall won the Michael Tuck Medal for his seven-goal performance while playing on Dawson in the NAB Cup grand final but Lyon said he would not hesitate to give his defender the job again on Friday night.

"I think if you drill it down after the first quarter, Zac did a reasonably good job on Barry. He had one kick for two quarters," Lyon said on Wednesday.

Dawson done a reasonable job on Hall, bahahahaha what 7 goals against you is a reasonable game. Wow i'd hate to have a bad game, that would have to be 15 goals then. Fair enough he kept Hall quiet for 2 quarters, but hang on our game has 4 quarters, pppfft reasonable....

And 6 goals in the other two, Ross, you moron.

Whoever is on Dawson, be it Barry Hall, Johnno or Mitch Hahn.....it doesn't really matter. Just take him deep to the square, have everyone else clear out of the 50, and watch him. He's toast!!!

Saints Footy must be a whole different ball game to any of the footy we've been accustomed too.

If 22 Dawsons had 22 reasonably good games a year on Barry Hall, he'd boot 154 goals.

Dawson is helped out a lot by others around him. He's exposed dramatically when it turns to one on one. Hopefully we are quick enough to isolate him with Hall and then he shouldn't have any trouble with him, we move the ball slow then it plays into their hands.

Good news, we should definantly keep the forward line very open so its a 1 on 1.

I have an even better feeling about this game now...

Dawson will no doubt receive better help this time around. We were pretty lucky that Fisher went off early in the NAB Cup final as his 3rd man up work is generally very good.

Yes please Mr Lyon. Christmas in April. Barry will be shaking in his boots at the prospect.

Fisher is a good player and we need to make sure he is accountable.

Along with Fisher, Gilbert is the other we need to pay close attention to down back. Is excellent at finding space and uses the ball well.

Saints footy. Is that the flood/zone, then kick it to the Nickhead? If Rocket had Riewoldt at Sydney he would have won 3 flags and we would still have the uberflood.

Gilbert and Fisher are half the players they are when they don't have their loose kicks out of defence being marked by Roo on a 80-metre lead to the boundary. Now they are just look like the aimless kicks to the boundary that they really are. And Milney won't have the freedom of Etihad with The Glove not having to run with Riewoldt.

Griff to shut down Goddard a la '09 Prelim, game over. I think this will be a blow-out.

My memory of the 09 prelim is Mitch playing on Goddard and being used when Goddard zoned off.

Goddard did deliver the ball spot on for the 2 marks in the second half that resulted in goals.

Dawson may not be worth a Zac but the Saints are very good at providing team defence, that was missing in the NAB Cup.

We need to create space and time from the midfield for delivery of the ball AND we must use the free player, which is more likely to be Hahn, at least occasionally.

This is an area we have not yet learned with Barry. I clearly remember, in the Hawthorn game, seeing Hahn opponent leave him to go to Hall and we still kick to Barry.

Time to look, space to steady and vision plus skill execution.

Disagree - the fear of playing on Barry would keep anyone awake, even those who work with Lyon :D

We all thought the same against Richmond, but in reality Barry was double and triple teamed meaning he wasn't able to expose an inferior opponent.

Let's hope that if St.Kilda employ similiar tactics we are able to spot up our free players... as suggested by Bulldog Joe a few posts back.

As always Mantis you provide the level head. I will defend my post a little by saying that I did use the word should and not will ;)

at Docklands, and I thought they hadn't lost there for a long time.

Fisher went off early in the NAB Cup so the double teaming of Hall will be ramped up.

I think in some ways Bazza's form have masked how good Johnno is - the football world has simply forgotten and there will be a game soon where he gets his touch back and tears a team apart as Hall is covered & the second tall goes to a resting Roughy.
Maybe Johnno's turn will be this week.

Agree wholeheartedly, which is why I listed Johnson as my 'x factor' for this week. ;)
