Cooney commits to Dogs

WESTERN Bulldogs midfielder Adam Cooney has re-signed with the club for a further three years.

Out of contract at the end of the season and amid speculation he was high on the hit list of the new Gold Coast club, Cooney said this morning he was delighted to sign a deal that will almost certainly end his career as a one-club player.

When a young kid asks his dad, can I have Adam Cooney's number 17 on my back? Dad can respond "most certainly" as he will be running around in the red white & blue for another 3 years!
Hope that other kid can get Harbrow's number 40 on his back.

Now for Griffen
I would be trying to get Harbrow's first, he is the one more likely to leave than Griff.

Not so sure about that. Apparently Port are making a huge play for Grif. Besides once the Fool's Gold Coast spend many millions on Gablett, there wont be much left for everyone else.

I still feel Griff is less likely to leave, just a gut feeling.

Not sure if anyone caught the presser talking about this re-signsing, a grab I heard was quite amusing:

Journo (Tom??): Being a good Adelaide boy was there a temptation to head home?

Rocket: You're from Adelaide aren't you Tom?

Journo: Yep.

Coon: So you escaped too..... Laughter.

I would be just as surprised with Griff leaving as I would with Harbrow staying.

Griffen was quoted pre-season as having said that he was so grateful and indebted to the club (with the way the club handled his father's passing) that he could never bring himself to leave.

Harbrow will go.

Harbrow will go.
Now or in 3 years' time? It would be fantastic if we can hold onto him for at least another contract term and then grant his potential wish to head up north while he's still in his footballing prime.

I'm stoked with the speed of the Cooney signing. I thought this one was going to play out like the Lake signing last season. Great work by all parties involved.

I heard him say that as well, he definatly has a wicked sense of humour.

I also agree that Griff is bigger chance of staying that Harbrow is, so anyone involved should be in his ear about getting the most with whatever success comes his way, all whilst the Gold Coast struggle for a few seasons during a development phase, then weight up the options, he could in the long run make just as much money for himself that way, hopefully the Dogs can snag a flag or 2, and everyone walks away happy.

Re: Harbrow situation.

I have heard that there will be an article in the Herald Sun tomorrow that will have information in it about the possible dealings Harbrow's management are having at present.... I guess we will have to see what they are.

As if Cooney was ever going to the Gold Coast - he'd go through litres of sunscreen every week!! :D

Seriously, glad he's staying and glad he escaped from Adelaide. ;)

Griffen is also involved in some sort of investment property(Torquay way i think) with Cooney, Higgins and Callan. He seems pretty settled at the Kennel and I would be surprise to see him go.

Could focusing too much on Harbrow make Griff feel unwanted?

Depends on who's seen by Griff to be doing the focusing I suppose.

I would tend to look at it another way that they are extremely confident that Griff will stay...especially with Coons signing.... therefore Harbrow is the Clubs priority.
