Now we all know that the 54 years since the 1954 flag omen didn't quite work out for us in 2008.

With that in mind I took a quick look at our history to see if anything positive could be gleamed from any relevant numbers and discovered the following:

1898 We won our first VFA Premiership

1954 We won our first VFL Premiership

2010 We win our first AFL Premiership???

A nice even 56 years between historic first flags each time.

They might as well engrave the cup now....;)

Like the thinking.. I to thought 54 on from 54 meant a win in 2008
The next year 5 plus 4 meant a win in 09
This year im 54 years old it must happen

Adelaide had an earthquake in 1954.
The next was 2010 earlier this year.
The planet wants it.

Yay.

But did we?

Must have missed it.

I still like Dennis Committee's "every year Adam Ant was born we have won the flag" line.

Melbourne last had the Olympics in 1956

54 years ago. We are a Melbourne club.

Far fetched much? I think so too :D

We can grasp at anything we like, if it helps get us over the line.

What about simply "IT IS OUR BLOODY TURN"

Another positive. Razor Ray is umpiring tonight so he shouldn't be in our game tomorrow

My thoughts exactly. I'd feel better if McLaren were out there with him.

From Stats Life! in the Age sport this morning:

"Barry Hall could be the difference tonight, but not necessarily for the reasons most pundits might think. In the Dogs' two previous successful finals encounters with the Saints, there has bee a "Barry" on the team. In 1961 it was Barry Smith and in 1992 it was Barry Standfield. In last year's preliminary final loss, the Bulldogs did not have a "Barry". "
