Over the years #8 has become the tough guy number at our club. With Mitch Hahn's retirement today should we retire the number or promote som one alead on the list?

I'd like to see Liam Picken get the number. He's got all the right attributes. He's tough and he never gives in.

First person I thought of was Picken as well.

I thought it was a delisting... has he completely hung up the boots?

I don't know if there is anyone in the team who is rugged or hard at it enough to get the #8....like the 3 & 6 I would be inclined to rest it for a season and see who emerges to take on the mantle.

Dale Morris or Liam Picken.

I like Dale wearing a humble, high number. He's made 38 his own and it suits him perfectly.

Picken is a good choice for the number 8.

Have to say the first that came to mind was Liam Picken - tough, uncompromising and has tons of courage.

Picken or Wood are outstanding candidates

I'd like to see one of them take 8 and the other 10

Probably Picken for #8

My call is for Picken, I think it would suit him down to the ground.

Pretty sure Sherman has been given 10.

Picken is absolutely rugged and hard at it enough. He's been the natural successor to 8 in my mind.
I think Lake is the natural no.3 if he wants to move up from 36. He's got the runs on the board and is absolutely worthy of it.
Happy to rest 6 for a year though.

Pretty sure Sherman has been given 10.

No more raking left footer's on the run from no.10 for a while then.

Pretty sure Sherman has been given 10.
That's a shame, thought they'd leave it vacant for Lachie Hunter.

I think either Wood or Picken would be excellent candidates for 8, but feel Wood is better suited to 6 than Picken, so Wood should get 6, Picken 8 and 3 rested with the view that if Jones performs well in 2011 he gets it.

Dale Morris or Liam Picken.

Sam Reid would do the number proud as well.

The Shermanator!

No that's not a serious nomination, but what about young Wallis. For some reason I can see him wearing the number 8 with class...

But he'll look even better in 24, much as young Libba will in 39

He'll get his dad's number. Already reserved for him, as well as young libba

There is also the number 3 and number 6 that could be used!

What about young Hooper, sure he's only had the 1 game but 41 isn't a very nice number to have.

Yes Reid's fallen off the radar a bit, but he was the first one who came to my mind.

Didn't Reid just change jumper to a lower number this time last year?

He went from 26 to 11, apparently he's a massive fan of Daniel Bandy so I doubt he'd change:p

You're right. I've got a signed jumper of his I bought at the bulldog shop for 30 dollars.

Gee we've got some numbers free.

3 - Dale Morris (c)
6 - Liam Picken
8 - Sam Reid
10 - Christian Howard
21 - Justin Sherman
24 - Mitch Wallis
39 - Tom Liberatore

The number would look fantastic spread across the broad shoulders of Reid, has to be either Reid or Picken for mine

Is he guaranteed starter in most games in 2011 and beyond? Questionable

He'd be a better choice than Reid IMO - he finished the season well and I'd say he is in front on the pecking order. Still probably on the fringes though with a full list.

Personally I like the idea of a dour/tough backman getting the number, and as we don't have one and Picken plays a defensive role (and as Delideo will attest to, can be a prick on the field) he is my first choice.

LostDoggy
12-11-2010, 10:53 AM
Liam Picken for me, he's a tough nut like the players who wore no. 8 before him. I haven't seen enough of Sam Reid to have an opinion on him yet. :)

Sorry i wouldn't be happy if we gave to him.

Maybe Brian Lake might want a better number. He'd be the perfect number 8

Yeah but its too cliché... I reckon take the path of Ablett at Geelong - even though that has now gone pear shaped - and make a different number his own. Same goes with Libba too...

With all due respect to Libba & Wally who were great players for the Dogs, there would be alot more pressure if your Dad is Gary Ablett Senior.
I like the idea of sons wearing their Dads number.
