FORMER Western Bulldogs star Danny Southern may have to deliver his own baby amid gunfire and riots in strife-torn Cairo.

Southern, a cult figure who played 103 games with the Bulldogs, is holed up in Cairo with his pregnant and overdue wife, while he listens to gunfire and tanks rolling past his front door.

As Egypt's capital - Southern's home for the last six years - turns into a war zone, the 36-year-old told the Herald Sun he has not slept in the last 72 hours.

Hope all goes well with the baby for Danny and his wife.

On a side note.

Do you think Danny has put the sleeper hold on any annoying tourists ? :)

From the photo, he doesn't look half as mean as he used too - must be love and a baby on the way!! Hope all goes well for Danny and his family.

Has the baby arrived ?

Good news about the arrival of a healthy baby boy, congratulations to Danny and his wife. I hope that they are all safe over there - the world seems to have gone mad at the minute.

Not meaning to nitpick, but they're one and the same...

Sorry, just as he came on, I had to sort my daughter out.

The one thing I did hear was that his father in law played soccer for the national team. We may struggle to get a father son selection here.

On the upside that means the kid has some pretty impressive athletic genes running through his body.

I'd love to be there the day Daniel says to his son "I used to play this sport back in Australia" and gets the DVDs out to show his son the way he played the game.

He'll have to show his son the choker hold on Sumich, that will persuade him to play AFL.

Father-Son........ pretty remote opportunity for Danny unless he moves back to Australia

Might be tough to get his son to kick the footy around with his mates at school in Egpyt
