Carn' the Legs!

Going to be a tough year given the loss of quite a few of our better players. Hopefully Philips and Jonas don't get games at AFL level and Walker signs with GWS and get's dropped early in the season and kicks a 100 - then we might be a shot! ;)

Looking forward to seeing how the Eagle goes, should be a pretty tight year in the SANFL with a few clubs who could be around the mark.

Eagle played very well yesterday. Had 20+ possessions in the first (and only) half (in a side getting flogged) :D

Have some good photos, will upload in a few days.

McMahon and Eagle spent the first quarter on each other, but didnt get witin 30 metres of each other once.

Sadly, Kieran McGuinness and Gavin Thomas were both rested from the game. Kym Koster is Glenelg's League Runner, so it was a Bulldogs reunion day!

How did McMahon play?

Didnt get a possession for the first 10 minutes, then had about 10 in the next 10 minutes, then rested for the rest of the game.

Well Eagleton and McMahon both have had disappointing seasons.

Eagleton in particular, how appears to not be able to handle a hard tag at all (being a potential match winner), and has been getting about 10 posessions a match for the last month or two and has also been reported a few times.

Jordy McMahon has racked up a gazillion soft possesions on the half back flank for Glenelg but half of them have gone straight to the other team. I did see him lay a tackle one week.

McMahon also took a week or two away from footy as well a month ago to sort something out.

Supporters of both teams have called for both to retire (or in McMahons case to get fully committed OR to retire)

McMahon's decline has been significant, hasn't it?

He was a decent player for us a few years ago.

Well not really, he was at Richmond a while remember, must be looking at 30 now, I think you find SA clubs tend to have a lot of kids and they are super enthusiastic and fast, no way could Jordan compete with that now.
He was over rated in my opinion anyway, all he had was speed never had natural ball skills or kicking skills he was recruited because he was fast and won races, one of those athletes clubs tried to turn into a footballer.

Nathan Eagleton announces retirement

Norwood midfielder, Nathan Eagleton, has today announced his retirement from League football.

Eagleton, who played 23 SANFL League games for Norwood after transferring from the Western Bulldogs at the end of the 2010 season, has signalled his latest hip injury setback and mental fatigue, as his reasons for stepping away from the game.

Nathan made the following statement today:

“I sat down and had a good conversation with senior coach Nathan Bassett and Football Operations Manager Mark Ross, about where I am at, both physically and mentally, since hurting my hip in our last trial game against Sturt.

“I have always stated that once I feel I am no longer able to contribute to the best of my abilities that I will walk away from the game and begin a new chapter in my life.

“There are a number of high quality players at Norwood who are capable of playing my role, and I feel by continuing to play I could well be hindering the development of these individuals.

“I would like to thank everyone involved at Norwood for making me feel so welcome during my time here. I will be taking a few weeks break to spend some time with my family before returning to assist Nathan Bassett and his team of coaches in the mentoring, coaching and development of our playing list.”

That is a great effort by McGuinnes if he was a few years younger he may have got another shot.

Well done Nathan on a good solid footy career. He was much maligned towards the end of his time with us, but at one stage he was a very damaging footballer for us.

It's a shame for Nathan as Norwood are looking pretty good thus far and are a genuine shot for the flag. He's had a very good career and I wish him all the best for the future.

WHEN Nathan Eagleton first walked into the Happy Valley Football Club as a teenager he idolised the club's senior premiership stars.

In the two decades since he has played 287 AFL matches including three preliminary finals, and kicked more than 200 AFL goals.

But, despite those lofty heights, emulating his former heroes and becoming a Vikings premiership player on Saturday ranks as one of the proudest moments in his football career.

"To go the full circle and come back here to Happy Valley to where I started my career, and to play in a grand final and win a premiership feels very special," Eagleton said.

"For these guys (teammates) to bring me in and make feel part of this group, and then to win a premiership, it doesn't matter what level it is, it is what you play for and it is a special thing.

"I will know all these blokes forever now and we will catch up at re-unions and reminisce about today."
