I shall be there with the War Department. As you would expect at an AFL game on the Gold Coast, there is NO PARKING at the ground. WTF?

I am told that the best bet is to get the shuttle bus from Pacific Fair shopping centre at Broadbeach.

Go Chops, taking a break while you are there?

Training tomorrow at Metricon:

Open training session - 1pm, Friday 24 June at Metricon Stadium, Gold Coast

I'll be there too (finally) - we were supposed to fly up on Wednesday morning but our flight was cancelled thanks to the stupid ash cloud. My other half had to get up at 3am and hang on hold for two hours to get us on a flight tomorrow morning.

After all that, we'd better have a win!

I'm going, got the tickets as a birthday present :).

EJ Smith, as well as Pacific Fair, there is also a parking area on the corner of Boowaggan Rd and Robina Parkway, which is a bit closer to the ground. A shuttle service is also provided from there.

Lack of ground parking is a nuisance but we went to a Broncos/Titans game last year (I know, I know) and had to park elsewhere and the shuttle service was pretty good.

Weather forecast is for "possible showers".

We head up tonight (baring volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, pestilence, meteors, the rapture or alien invasion).

Can't believe I am packing ponchos for Saturday for a game on the Gold Coast when all winter long in Melbourne I am not bothered by a drop of rain at Etihad.

Are the shuttle buses from Pacific Fair especially for the match or are they just the regular bus service?

Me.

After being delayed in LA I am almost back in Melbourne. Will have enough time to go home grab some clean clothes and the golf clubs before I head back to the airport... Not sure if I'm coming or going at present.

I'm not sure, maybe both? Regular buses will be free if you show your stadium ticket. This is my first time at Metricon.

We will be unlucky if it rains much, or at all. The sun has been quite warm this week, beautiful days, even though the temps are only around 20. Cold wind too. I'd prefer a cooler, less bright day, tbh. I plan to take several layers, including the poncho. :o

Music to my ears! 'Only' around 20 is a lot better than the 13 we've got in melb currently! :)

It hasnt rained for more than 2 weeks in Brisbane

Assuming the GC has seen the same fine weather

Shame that Saturday might be the first day with a shower for a while

Hope to see lots of other Bulldogs supporters at the game

Really envious of all you guys who are able to get there! Partner has had a shoulder reco, so I'm chief driver, etc.! Next year tho, we move to northern NSW, so I will be able to get to the GC easily!!! Yay! Hope the doggies put on a good one for you all (and us too!)

We'll be looking to go for a surf with those temperatures.

See you all in the bar - wherever that is

Don't know what you lot are complaining about! The last time I paid the stadium a visit in 1992 they had NO Grandstands No Ponchos meant we got drenched.:eek:They had temporary stands and Portables for Admin and changerooms.

Well actually her birthday was today, so big fat fail on that count. :o

But she still gets to go to Movieworld instead of school next week, and we're making it to the footy, so overall, big fat WIN for the Murphy's Lore family!

Just got back half hour ago. Loads of doggie supporters up there. Saw them where we were staying at the Raddison, again at the Casino, walking around Surfers and at the airport. We must be breeding!

I'm with you on this one -- am writing this from the Delta Sky Lounge in JFK terminal 2, trapped here for 6 hours after my travel agent messed up a booking. All this after around 30 hours travelling time in the last 5 days, plus staying off the free booze in the lounge to reduce the stress on my body (so kinda wasting it). I have no idea if I'm coming or going, but a shower does wonders.

Good win on the weekend I see.

Big tick to Metricon and the park and ride. Couldn't have been easier. The Cats fan and I were the only non-Suns fans on the shuttle . However, we landed among fellow Doggies up in the stand, quite a few really.

Another tick to the stadium management for not bombarding us with ads during the breaks. They even put on a halfway decent live band before the game and at half time. :)

Agreed!! The park & ride was great. Actually, we were able to use our footy ticket to get free bus travel from outside our apartment in Main Beach to Pacific Fair, then the shuttle to Metricon Stadium, then back again. They also provide free public transport in Sydney for the NRL grand final (not sure about normal games). Melbourne should look at doing this for footy supporters to encourage public transport use on game day.

Had plenty of Bulldogs supporters on our buses and sitting around us at the ground. Overall a very enjoyable trip to the Gold Coast with a Bulldogs win, a few theme parks and lovely weather thrown in!! :)

Why would Melbourne need to do it? The stadiums are located pretty close to the city where public transport/walking is easy unlike metricon or the Sydney Olympic stadiums.

Laugh of the day went to the ground announcer attempting to pronounce Giansiracusa. It came out as "Issicura - 2 goals" :D

The first attempt was Ja-scooter, hilarious.

A different environment compared to Vic grounds but a very enjoyable experience.

Sorry, I meant provide free public transport, not shuttle buses. In Sydney the train goes right to ANZ Stadium. :)

And when the after goal jingle came on in the last quarter in the middle of play. I was on my way back from the loo & thought "Gee, that was damn quick, they only just kicked a goal". :D

To where? The city? The reason they give them free transport is because it's hard to get to unlike Melbourne.

All Queensland sporting events include free public transport with your match day ticket.

It is a very good initative, encouraging people to use public transport, something that Melbourne should introduce.

Yes, our sporting precinct is in the CBD, but plenty of people still drive in to the CBD. If they had free public transport, you never know, they may just decide to use it.

It is the same in WA for the footy and I assume other sports events.

Nice stadium there at Metricon. Suns have put together a good game day experience for the kids as well with the activities out on the concourse etc. Some good quality food from the vans on the outside as well which was a nice change.

We sat in the away fans area, it was interesting to be surrounded by scraggers for a change. We usually sit on L3 at Etihad with a handful of Dogs fans and most;y opposition fans around us. Or no one around us if its an interstate team!

I liked how the novelty of actually cheering for your team hasn't waned for the Suns fans, they were quite vocal which was nice to hear. Our fans sort of go through the motions and seem to be waiting for the big one before really piping up. Did hear a different Dogs chant get up after a few goals though, was OK. In all it made for a nice day out at the footy, noone to really get pissed off at, a nice facility, a win which was neither terrible, nor terrific - just a win.

Shuttle bus home was great. MID tent across the road pre game for a few beers was a nice touch given there is nowhere around for a drink unless you get stuck in around Surfers Paradise. I'll mark the Suns game down as my one away trip a year now.

I'm all for free public transport for ticket holder and agree we should limit use of cars.
However, the major difference here is maybe many of the QLD stadiums are built in whoop whoop where little or no public transport exists and no parking exists. They need to provide free transport (chartered buses) so people go.

How good was that? We went to the Mid Tent for pre-game drinks and then post game drinks. I was very impressed with Metricon Stadium, will definitely look forward to going there again. We then caught a Maxi cab back to Surfers.
