Re: Preseason Training - 2019
Got to the open training session this afternoon (left work early).
Probably not a lot to report on with players performing fairly simple drills with 'expected' team mates, but some observations:
1. didn't see Boyd, Libba, Picken, Lloyd, Suckling, Naughton, Morris, Lynch, or Duyrea on track (they were in the Monday training video)
2. I noticed Cavarra and Daniel on sidelines
3. No sign of JJ, Webb, Gowers or Dale (recovering from injury and therefore inside Elite Learning centre) or B Smith(?)
4. seemed to be 4 unknown players training. I had binoculars, and recognise most players, so these 4 didn't register. Possibly future f/s(?) having a run
5. Trengove and English seemed to be first ruck options (noting Boyd wasn't on the ground), with Schache teaming up with Sweet in a separate training drill.
6. B Williams trained with midfield group
7. an odd grouping was Lewis Young, Greene, Lipinski and Richards training together....does this suggest a fwd move for Young?
8. new recruits seemed to mostly train as a group with a couple of senior players amongst them e.g. Wood. Sweet, Hayes and West however worked with the other senior players on some ball up situations
9. Bont looked in great nick as did Crozier, Dunkley, Wood and Roberts
10. hard to get a feel for the newbies, Hayes and West clearly the most confident pair
I sat out on the outer wing, so didn't see everything going on, so happy to be corrected an any of the points above. I also note there is a Social Club function at Marvel Stadium this evening, so maybe some of the players not on the field were suiting up for tonight.
Re: Preseason Training - 2019
Thank you for the update Smads57. Open training sessions are usually a fizzer and you don't get to see as much, but at least there was some action.
Re: Preseason Training - 2019
Love your work Smads, thanks.
Re: Preseason Training - 2019
Much appreciated Smads57. Good summary. Hopefully we can catch up in a few 2 weeks at the family fun day.
Re: Preseason Training - 2019
According to AFEL.com.au
These kids are training with us over summer: Western Bulldogs: Jack Bell, Hugo Ralph-Smith, Josh Worrell, Darcy Cassar
Re: Preseason Training - 2019
I think we will see Young tried up front at some point in 2019, we might try swing him forward at times like we did with Adams.

It's easy to forget how Young young is comparing him to our other young Young who was just rookied and is only 4 months the younger Young, while our existing Young is into his 3rd re-season.

Bont & Dunks did undertake a training camp in the US so they've basically done a pre-pre-season.
I really rate Crozier so good to hear he's in good shape.

Re: Preseason Training - 2019
Suckling return on track
Western Bulldogs defender Matt Suckling is pain free and looking forward to attacking the pre-season at full speed by Christmas.
Achilles soreness kept the experienced defender on the sidelines for the second half of the 2018 season, but a solid rehabilitation program has put him in a strong position to be ready for next year.
"I've had some problems with the Achilles before, but it's just down to calf strength issues and playing a wet game against Adelaide (last year) … it just flared up, and then I tried to play on and couldn't," Suckling said.
"I've spent a lot of time putting strength into my calves and I'm pain free at the moment, so running around and building up to be flat out by Christmas.”
Suckling was in arguably career-best form before his injury last season, where he averaged 24 disposals and six marks per game, and booted five goals, in the first 11 rounds.
He was on track for a top-five finish in the Charles Sutton Medal, amassing 63 votes in the first half of the campaign.
Suckling has played 50 games over three seasons for the Bulldogs since crossing from Hawthorn at the end of 2015, and signed a one-year contract extension for the 2019 season.

So do we bring the Beasley theory in to play and don't play Matt in the wet.:)
