This game is massive for our short term top 4 position (and may prove important at the end of the year) as some top 4 sides playing each other - Syd v Melbourne (at SCG), Richmond v Geelong. If we win, we'll put a gap on the sides that lose.
Not not concerned about this. McKay was a nightmare matchup for us before he was consistently week in and week out awesome, and their midfield is pretty dynamic (in spite of their “best player” skulking around looking for cheap kicks from the guys actually doing the work). They usually trouble us for speed and have only gotten quicker with their off-season additions.
We should win but I’m not gonna pretend I’m confident we will.
I think from a horses for courses POV this could be a horror match up for us down back given what Richmond have laid out for others to try have a crack at.
Same. In 2019 we were the first team in years to let them score 100+ points, and I still remember it vividly. If we go in thinking that a win is a formality, then we will lose. Some teams seem to match up or play better against certain teams, Carlton seem to be that (not know if beat them or not last year. But it would be nice to make a strong statement and work towards locking down a top 2 spot.
I can accept losing to a fired up, backs against the wall Richmond. I can’t accept a loss to Carlton. With the 6 weeks following this game an absolute horror show of a draw, this game sits firmly in the must effing win column.
Yep, the Carlton match committee would’ve watched our game with a huge smile on their faces...so..in part of their fwds licking their lips, and their midfield breaking even with ours (Cripps/Walsh to run riot with no tags)

I think Carlton will massively utilise the running/kicking power of Saad, therefore kicking the ball over the centre square, leaving a pagans paddock for McKay, Casbolt and Betts to get a lot of opportunities.
Looking at our next 3 games, we could quite easily be 6-4 after round 10. This is a MUST win game.
We struggle to contain certain Carlton players, and unfortunately I think this will continue. If Harry kicks straight I’m expecting 5+ for him.
I never really thought much about Saad, I just thought he was all speed and not much else but watching the game on the weekend he was nailing some very long kicks to players down field in the open.
Saad is a tremendously overrated defender and he is kinda having a bad year but fair play he was excellent yesterday. He's also the exact sort of player we've had trouble containing, both in general and against Carlton. We shouldn't devote too much energy to it but some thought needs to be put into him.
The 2019 game was a lot of over the back stuff, where we had control for most of the game but made it too easy for them to score quickly. We've been better at that this year, even the Richmond game we only conceded 11 goals
If Cordy plays on McKay Carlton win.
I think our defence will be the key to this game. We really shouldn't have too much trouble scoring against their leaky defence, but we must make it difficult for them to score.
Get ready for a shootout: Teague predicts goals galore against Dogs
CARLTON coach David Teague knows his side's leaky defence has to tighten up overall but is happy to take on the Western Bulldogs in an AFL shootout.
The Blues have conceded an average of 91.4 points per game in 2021 - ranked 13th in the competition - and face a stingy Bulldogs giving up 62.4 points across the opening seven rounds.
The Dogs are also the competition's best attacking side, averaging 98 points a game, with more than half of their outings resulting in triple-figure tallies.
But Teague believes an open and instinctive style of game suits his players and has urged Carlton to attack at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
"If we concede a big score, we've just got to make sure we kick a bigger score," Teague said on Thursday.
"It's scores for versus scores against and I'll be honest, I think this game could be really exciting.
"It might be a high-scoring game and I think both teams will do their best defensively, but it could end up being a more offensive game."
Teague described defence as the Blues' "biggest growth area" as they seek to end their finals drought.
"We want to improve that area, absolutely," he said.
"We've got to get better at it, but each game you've got to play the game on its merits.
"The West Coast-Bulldogs game (in round two) was quite high-scoring and the Bulldogs got the win, and that's our challenge.
"There's no point having a really good, dour game if you don't score enough points to win the game as well."
Carlton could be bolstered by the return of Zac Williams (soreness) and Marc Murphy (neck) against the Bulldogs, with Jack Silvagni (shoulder) and Paddy Dow (eye) also in the mix.
But Mitch McGovern won't be available for at least the next two months after suffering a high-grade hamstring injury.

Sportsbet expecting Harry to have a day out Bornadog. $2.75 to kick 4+
To me this is the game I was most concerned about out of the last 2 weeks. A game on paper we should win, but our form against Carlton has been patchy. Their style (like the Saints/Melbourne) troubles us. The loss last week you can put down to a number of things. personally I think we were just off. A little unbalanced by some of our outs. That's no excuse for this week. We know that Buku is in and will play. I hope that the intention is not to have him play a lockdown role on McKay instead of Cordy. For mine Buku should play if Keath and Young/Gardner/Cordy are playing, which means he replaces Wood/Doc/Croz. I don't think the MC will see it that way though.
Up forward I expect English to miss again and judging from Bevo's presser I suspect Schache will get another run. Must be the last chance saloon if he does. I think Vanders will be back and McNeil. I'd like to see Wally come in as well, but Bevo didn't seem to be saying that. For mine I expect West, JJ to be dropped and I think Hannan may be in trouble if they decide to give Wally a run.
Prediction:
WB: 5 points
1st Goal - McKay

With the sides now selected I can see us getting over the top of them. They have gone public stating they want a shoot out so Bevo has panicked and pick a side full of back50 players.
I hate shootouts.
