Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
Welcome to the Always Right Match Committee Thread. The Match Committee threads has been named after long time WOOF member Always Right who tragically passed away in March 2018.
If you were on the Western Bulldogs match committee, what changes would you make after our Round Six match against St Kilda for our Round Seven match against the Dockers at Optus Stadium on Saturday evening.
For those new to these threads, please give a brief explanation for your changes ... this would add a lot of value to the discussion.

Libba and Marra in for Lobb (terribly unlucky) and Sanders.

Hard to make many changes from that.
In - Libba and Marra
Out - Sanders and Darcy
** Darcy super unlucky, but Lobb is a better second ruck and against Jackson that might be important.

No way Lobb goes out, I thought he was great tonight.

Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
Serious question, Libba is back, Treloar was brilliant, Bont is well Bont, Macrae has lifted his work rate, Richards did a fine job so how do we manage Garcia next week in terms of midfield rotations?
-
Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
We kinda need Lobb to play against Freo. They’re ready to jump the fence and kill him over there, I actually think it gave us a bit of an edge last time out.

Came off after a heavy collision. Looked like it was precautionary and an excuse to get Sanders into the game.

Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
In: Libba, Marra
Out: Brambles, VDM (injured)
Garcia to replace VDM
Richards : half back, with a few CBA

Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
Lobb looked to go off with an ankle late in the third, had some pain relief and came back. Two weeks in a row it’s caused a niggle. Maybe means he’s an out.
Hard to know who else to change up if Libba is also back.
Note, I’m assuming Marra is good to go.

Good question. We have been too reliant on three players this year so it is good to have some options. I like speed of Ed and Sunny so it is good to have them in the mix as well as a fired up Macrae. A better mix allows Bont to drift forward and manage Libba’s time as well. We will need to keep check off Serong next week thus rotating players will keep them relatively fresh.

I would put Garcia on Serong and give him a hard time

Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
I think Lobb, Sanders, VDM
For Jamarra, Libba, Daniel
-Sanders can get some confidence out of dominating vfl for a week.
-Daniel should play half forward and become like Gryan Miers. Hope he plays there in the vfl this week
-
Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
From Bevo?s presser Marra might not play next week - he basically said wait & see.
Out: VDM, Harmes
In: Libba, Daniel if he plays really well tomorrow
Harmes as sub
Saunders to play VFL rather than sub second week in a row (or if Daniel is mediocre then he is in starting 22)
-
Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
I’m sorry I just don’t see any hardness or urgency from Sanders.
Looks like he just trots around.

I'm guessing he is conserving energy because he is struggling with the pace of the game? One things for sure Sanders will be playing VFL next week.
-
Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
Not sure we'll see Marra back next week, even if it is a longer break between games. Bevo is usually on the mark with his assessments on that front.
In - Libba
Out - Harmes

Hard for him as sub with limited exposure or experience at the level.
I'm inclined to give him a month of VFL footy.

Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
I think structural change.
Richards stays in the guts. Daniel takes his spot down back for Bramble.
Manage Darcy by playing him as sub.
Marra, Sanders & Libba in.
Clarke for VDM (inj)
Williams needs the dropping effect that?s getting blocked hungry again
In: Marra, Libba, Sanders (sub), Daniel, Clarke
Out: Bramble, VDM (inj), Darcy (sub), Williams, Harmes
JJ Jones JOD
Daniel Buku Dale
Gags Libba Sanders
Clarke Lobb West
Marra Naughton Cody
Tim Bont Treloar
Doc Macrae Richards Garcia
Darcy

I think there is **** all chance that after a 10 goal win we make 4 changes. Sure Libba & Marra need to come back in, but Daniel can stay where he is and Clarke isn't ready to come in in what shapes up as an extremely important game.
Williams was fine last night... sure he missed a goal late in the piece when West was free, but he was 40m out running clear and should've just kicked the goal.
I think the option to throw Richards into the midfield is a lever to pull through games, but he's an exceptional HBF and I would like him to play the majority of the game there.... especially when many of our medium sized defenders are better offensively than defensively.

You’re probably right. But it’s what I’d do not what the MC will do. Realistically it’s just the two changes.

Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
Only change for me is Clarke in and Sanders and VDM (concussion precaution) out.
Clarke was good again last week until he got that niggle, but stayed on field.
Save Libba a trip west and see if the new look centre rotations can work as good as last night.
For sub, maybe Caleb.

He's also just not very quick, which we knew when we picked him.
The guy is an inside mid but there are a heap of very good inside mids ahead of him. He's mostly playing outside/flank because he's a good footballer, but I think we're doing a little bit of judging a fish by how well it climbs a tree.

Sanders has shown a ton you guys are worrying about nothing.

Yep, he's going to be a gun for us.. but he's a young boy in a hurry and with a strong senior core ahead he is going to have to bide his time... a 2-3 week run for Footscray where he can be ''the man'' isn't going to do much harm for his development.

Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
Calls to drop Harmes are off the mark I reckon - he just instinctively does team-oriented things at all possible moments. He lays blocks for teammates in better positions to create more space for them, he runs hard defensively to spoil bigger opponents. I bet his game last night was valued far more within the 4 walls than in the outer.

Have you considered the vibes though?

Agree. No way Harmes gets dropped. These are the little things coaches love. Not on the stats sheet but really team play first. Good call Sedat.

Hard to see him getting dropped for the trip to Fremantle. He's a good role player for us.

Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
In- Libba (has to play), Marra (also has to play)
Out - Sanders, Lobb
Tough on Lobb in particular, but Darcy's contested marking could be a huge weapon against this Freo back six. If Marra misses, Lobb holds his spot - he worked hard last night.
Libba has to play so it means the next inside-mid drops out of the side. I'd be pretty keen to keep Ed Richards on-ball, so it's going to be a juggling act with midfield minutes.
Gallagher starts sub after some big minutes through the week. The other option would be Bramble as sub, but that probably means Richards has to return to the back-line.
-
Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
Out
VDM - if you're looking for who didn't .... (fill in the dots), look no further.
Gallagher - caught out ball watching on turnover a couple of times and was searching for petrol tickets also at other times. I think a rest might be timely.
In:
Libba
JUH (given he's available. If not, then in Daniel)

English, Lobb, Darcy, Astro, JUH all in the same team?
Go get 'em!

Beveridge mentioned that JUH is no guarantee to play against Freo. You would think Lobb is the unlucky one if he does come back, we cannot play them all.
-
Re: Always Right Match Committee Round 7 vs Fremantle Dockers
That's exactly what I'm saying. Gutsy eh? Intent would be for four of the five to be on the ground at any one time. Interchange would need to work like a well-oiled machine.
But, wasn't taking Ed Richards out of the backline and putting him in the midfield akin to football heresy, something capable of bringing about the end of football civilisation as we know it? Well, we won centre clearances 16 to 9 and our defence worked just fine.
Indeed, you could even think of moving Na...., nah, that's a bridge too far.

So we win by 10-goals and make 5 changes?
I'm sitting here chuckling to myself. If you want to lose the players you should 100% do that.

Agree with that, we're also (probably) bringing in two average runners (Libba and Marra) on a ground where running capacity is extremely important.
I reckon that's why Gallagher, Laith, Bramble and co are close to locks this week and Sanders doesn't get a look in - we need legs in Perth.
