Who To Give The Jumper Numbers To?
Available Jumper Numbers:
17
18
19
38
42
45 (Only Existing Vacant Number Before Jong at 46 - the highest jumper number)
Previous Numbers:
27 Bruce
42 Keath
44 Weightmn (Stingrays)
13 Butler (Dragons)
53 Garcia (Swan Districts)
Alternatively, is there anyone deserving an upgrade into the teens? Eg. English, La Young etc.
I'd live to turn #38 into a distinguished number forever. Maybe offered to the best KPD or something.

18 English (big promotion, assuming he wants it)
19 Butler
38 Keath (taking the honour of Morris jumper number)
42 Garcia
44 Weightmn (his junior jumper number)
-

I like the romance of the idea of giving #38 to a player off the rookie list too.

17 Bruce
18 Weightman
19 English
38 Vacant till earned
42 Keath
45 Garcia

Re: Who To Give The Jumper Numbers To?
If Garcia sticks with 53, he automatically becomes a fav. Love a random high jumper number.

I know I have said this before but can we PLEASE not give this jumper to our first round draft pick? Instead, can we either:
a). Take it to the middle of the Whitten Oval and BURN IT - never to be used again.
b). Perform some kind of ritual 'cleansing' before using it EVER again.
This jumper should never, ever be seen again.

Tom Campbell played in 45 for a few seasons before switching to a lower number.
I have a soft spot for 45 having worn it for most of my local footy career.

Re: Who To Give The Jumper Numbers To?
Retire 42 until we can give it to a rookie - Matty Boyd wore it before handing it to Picken. It's a rookie success magnet.
19 should be retired as it absolutely is cursed.

Yep agree. I've always eyed numbers 19 and 1 with extreme suspicion. But I always thought that Phil Bradmore wore number 18 because he was a full forward and another (better) full forward called Simon Beasley took the number from him.
Zeno Tzatzaris is like a god to some people. Maybe we could retire the number and just give him the jumper with 19 on it. Zeno will crush it to death! And I played cricket with Terry Love-he was a decent fast bowler and made a few rep teams even though he had some handy fast bowlers ahaed of him in underage ranks (Merv Hughes, Tony Dodemaide, Colin Miller and a few others who were good but never went anywhere. I can confirm some Blackadder type moments yelling "Go Love" and "Great stuff Love" at those old suburban grounds would get you some strange looks.

Lachie Young then?
I kind of like the idea of giving it a year and maybe considering if Khamis wants to change to 38 if he's coming along nicely.

Not to mention he's the only Parkside boy to make it to the big time as far as I know.

Re: Who To Give The Jumper Numbers To?

I had a great friend that grew up in Melon st. We shared houses together for most of our early adult years.
I probably shouldn't say this but I got up one morning and Micky McLean was sitting in our loungeroom. My friend and I had a deal-if we woke up with someone that we didn't want to spend anymore time with, then we deposited them in the lounge room and left it up to the other person to let them down gently and show them the door. I'd done it a million times before, but this was Magic McLean man! He say's to me "Where did that girl go?" and I had to say "Sorry mate but she ain't coming back, it's time to go."
It was the only time that I said 'sorry'

Gary Merrington was a pretty good fullback and I would say the best of all 19s. (Sorry Luke :o )

Yes could play full forward too. I remember he kicked 4 or 5 goals in one of the night games comp that they used to hold for the teams missing out of the finals.

Dear old Chooka. Do you remember when he came charging out of defence bouncing the ball with a clearly flailing Peter Hudson struggling to keep up with him until Merrington took one too many bounces and the ball bounced back over his head straight into Hudson's arms who just turned around and ran into the open goal?
Merrington was the recruiter who organized to take Chris Grant at pick 105 too. It wouldn't have happened without Chooka being so proactive and Chris could have ended up anywhere.

Mark Komp came from Parkside. Played for us in the early eighties for about 20 games or so.

Max Cross who kicked 10 goals in a game and led our goalkicking came from Parkside too. And Sedat Sir, Michael Svilar and Stephen Power.

Does the presence of the great man Luke Beveridge - the only living Bulldog premiership coach change this numbers curse?
Was that premiership not the very 'cleansing' you are calling for?

Maybe Weightman Bucks the trend? Maybe.

Weightman gives himself the opportunity to be the best Bulldog to wear 19. Why wouldn't you do it!!

Yeah I played against them too back in the '70s. Back then Avondale Heights was an exotic location.
What does ANBY stand for?

Youth I'd say. Yarraville is miles away from Altona North and Brooklyn unless you sell real estate.

I read it this morning (well, it's still morning in WA) and I AM having conniptions.
Burn it. Or, allocate it to a player who you want to delist. One sniff of that thing and they will be on a downward trend.
I love the number and wore 19 throughout my playing 'career' (lol) but the tricolour version is cursed. Do Not Do It.
