Light at end of tunnel for Duryea
Experienced defender Taylor Duryea is inching closer to a return to football.
The 29-year-old has yet to feature in 2020, due to a combination of an off-season groin injury and more recently, a persistent quad injury.
But there is some light at the end of the tunnel for the second-year Dog, after pulling on the red, white and blue 14 times in 2019.
“Taylor has had a lengthy stint in rehab due to some persisting quad tightness,” medical services manager, Chris Bell said.
“He’s in line now to tick off top speed and will look to reintegrate back into full training in the next one-to-two weeks.”
Key forward Josh Schache has made better-than-expected progress with his groin complaint to be listed as a test for this week alongside forward Fergus Greene, who sustained a hand injury in Saturday’s scratch match.
Lin Jong (ankle) and Matt Suckling (hamstring) are also making strides with their recovery from longer-term injuries.
“Matt has started to be exposed to some top-end speed following his hamstring injury,” Bell said.
“At this stage, he’s on track to resume full training in the next one-to-two weeks.
“Lin is back up and running and he’s being exposed to some low-level drills. We hope to see him back in full training in the next two-to-three weeks.”
Injury list
Fergus Greene (hand) – test
Josh Schache (groin) – test
Hayden Crozier (toe) – 1-2 weeks
Taylor Duryea (quad) – 1-3 weeks
Lin Jong (ankle) – 2-4 weeks
Matt Suckling (ankle) – 2-4 weeks
Look a lot better
That's a huge move by Duryea. Hope to see him back soon
Dogs sweat on Jason Johannisen’s fitness after ankle injury at training
The Western Bulldogs remain hopeful speedster Jason Johannisen will be fit to face Adelaide on Sunday afternoon after injuring his ankle on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old returned to the hotel early in Queensland to have his right ankle assessed by team doctors.
Foxfooty.com.au understands he rolled it in the last 15 minutes training.
Club doctors will monitor the swelling over the next 48 hours before making a call on the 2016 Norm Smith Medallist later in the week.
He won’t have scans on Wednesday but may be sent for scans on Thursday, depending on the assessment by doctors in the Queensland hub.
The Dogs expect to have a clearer picture by Friday, which is their main training run for the week.
The club is in the midst of a rare eight-day break but won’t take any chances against the lowly Crows at Metricon Stadium.
If they lose either of their next two games against Adelaide and Melbourne, playing finals becomes an increasingly difficult proposition.
Johannisen remains one of Luke Beveridge’s most important players. He finished fourth in the best and fairest last year after missing the first three games with a left ankle injury.
At least it doesn't sound like another 6-8 week syndesmosis injury.
Looks like Cordy will miss a few with a chest muscle complaint.
Last pec injury we had I remember was some guy called Morgan.
English wait-and-see for Dees
Ruckman Tim English could be a touch-and-go proposition for the Western Bulldogs’ next match, against Melbourne on Saturday afternoon.
English picked up an ankle niggle late in the Bulldogs’ win against the Adelaide Crows yesterday.
The 23-year-old spent large parts of the game inside-50 alongside Aaron Naughton, proving a threat in the air but unable to capitalize on the scoreboard with 1.4.
Senior coach Luke Beveridge admitted that similarly to Jason Johannisen this week, English would need to be fit to train later this week to face the Dees.
“I did mention in the press conference post-game that he had expressed to me that he sensed he would be okay,” Beveridge said on SEN 1116 this morning.
“That’s up in the air.
“There’s probably a chance Tim does miss this week.
“It’s a six-day break, if he’s not up to it come that last training session, we just need to rule a line (through him) and get him ready for possibly the following week.”
The Bulldogs haven’t needed to call on their ruck reserves much over the past two seasons, with the durable big man featuring in every game in 2020, plus 20 of 23 games in 2019.
If English is unavailable, the Bulldogs could look to either experienced utility Jackson Trengove – who was a late inclusion in round eight against Richmond – or yet-to-debut ruckman Jordon Sweet to take his place.
Naughton with corky on forearm but should be ok.
