It's an interesting debate between needing the extra list spot vs getting the additional coaching, but it's clearly the method the Hawks are going down with Burgoyne next year. I wonder if there will be an increase in 30+ year olds being traded for as playing coaches.....
Imagine going back to the day of player/ coach ..who was the last one, Blight ?

Seems as if the latest is that list sizes may only be reduced by 2 now

This may save a few on our list who we may've otherwise have been forced into letting go?

Where's my contract? Every player who's yet to sign a new deal
Western Bulldogs
Out of contract: Ben Cavarra, Taylor Duryea, Ryan Gardner, Billy Gowers, Fergus Greene, Will Hayes, Lin Jong, Buku Khamis, Brad Lynch, Callum Porter, Roarke Smith, Matthew Suckling, Jordon Sweet, Jackson Trengove, Lachie Young
The Dogs are in good list shape, with their top priorities already locked away. Easton Wood has agreed to a two-year deal, but it's yet to be officially announced. Duryea and Gardner are expected to score new contracts, while Young is a required player as well. Jong and Khamis have both changed management groups as they weigh up their future. Lynch last played in round 23, 2018 and had soft-tissue injuries in the following pre-season, but has been fit ever since. He displayed some good form two years ago and will hope that is remembered.

Tbh I wouldn't bat an eyelid if we delisted / traded any of those 15 with the exception of Duryea who probably has another good year of footy in him.

IF, Jong was not to be injured again, I would give him a contract, but overall I agree with you.

After Dickson's retirement we have 39 on the primary & 5 on the rookie list.
If we follow this article for a moment and say Duryea, Gardner & Young are likely to remain, that leaves the remaining uncontracted players, of which 9 are on the primary & 3 are rookies, anxiously waiting for their futures to be decided. I think its shambolic of the AFL they haven't sorted out the TPP & List sizes by now. It's most unfair on this group of players, same for the other clubs.
However if we were to delist all of them we would have 30 + 2 going into the trade/draft/FA period. I doubt the club would do that. It's too many holes to fill, especially this year when we have limited draft access and haven't had the chance to view many players at the lower levels to assess their worth properly.
I think Roarke Smith, Sweet & Jong should probably remain on 1 year deals and maybe one of Cavarra or Greene. However it wouldn't surprise me if any of these weren't offered a new deal

Jong and maybe Greene and La Young for me also, but otherwise agree.
Re: Player Contract Status
I really want to keep Lachie Young. He's a pup but has quite a few AFL attributes as a medium defender. Good overhead and can kick the ball well.

Yeah, he's a definite keeper.

Agree with what you say.
But how many medium defenders do we need?
Our list is so far out of balance it is crazy.
