Western Bulldogs forward Sam Lloyd has signed a one-year contract extension.
The 29-year-old has been rewarded for a career-best year in his first season in red, white and blue, where he featured in all 23 matches at AFL level and led the Bulldogs’ goal-kicking tally with 38 majors.
Having joined the Bulldogs in the 2018 NAB AFL Trade Period on a two-year deal, Lloyd will now remain at VU Whitten Oval until at least the end of 2021.
General Manager of List and Recruiting, Sam Power, said Lloyd had made an immediate impact as a Bulldog.
“Sam has been a great fit for our Club and enjoyed an outstanding first season,” Power said.
“He had a significant on-field impact, playing every game and consistently hitting the scoreboard to be our leading goal-kicker in 2019.
“As an experienced player in a developing group, Sam’s leadership and ability to help guide his younger teammates has also been important.”
In a consistent 2019 season, Lloyd kicked multiple goals on 14 occasions and had 10 or more disposals in every match.
He has kicked 107 goals from 80 matches at AFL level, since making his debut for Richmond in 2014.

Good News, he had been a great acquisition
I think Lloyd was really good for us last year, but he’s in the age bracket where I would be waiting until the mid point of the year before re-signing.
I’m not sold on how he will perform in big games yet.
Hayden Croizer has signed until end of 2023.
Amazingly good news.
A lot of our players resigning early. A great sign of a happy group.
Great news. Hayden was great for us in 2019 in that back half.

I wonder if his trip to the US with Bont and Dunkley was a turning point for him? He is clearly playing better football now than he did at Fremantle. He is a genuine leader of the back line and organises others plus his tackling and marking along with his kicking skills has been impressive. I suggest he would be one of the first picked each week.
