Key Dogs move closer to full training
A host of Bulldog big names are set to return to full training early in the New Year after nearing the end of their rehabilitation programs.
Emerging key forward Aaron Naughton (knee) and new recruit Alex Keath (ankle) are expected to return to the main training group in January, following off season surgeries.
“Aaron has progressed nicely through the off-season, after having surgery to repair the knee injury he sustained in our final against the Giants,” said Bulldogs’ Physical Performance Manager Chris Bell.
“He is back running and we will be building up his football load to re integrate back into training with the squad through January.
“Alex has been incredibly diligent and professional from the moment he walked in the door.
“At the end of last year, he had surgery to repair a lower leg injury. His rehab has gone really smoothly to date – he has progressed his running loads, has built some speed and is starting to be exposed to some football drills.”
Experienced trio Mitch Wallis (ankle), Lachie Hunter (shoulder) and Tom Liberatore (knee) are also stepping up their training loads after going under the knife following the 2019 season.
However, defender Taylor Duryea will have a slower start to 2020, as he recovers from hip surgery.
“Taylor had surgery to repair a groin injury over the off-season, which all went smoothly,” Bell said.
“He is progressing really well, however this type of surgery comes with a lengthy rehab timeframe.
“He remains on track to resume running in January, before building back into football training loads in February.”

High-flying Dog on track for round one after knee injury
A CLEAN bill of health is all most clubs would ask for in January, and the Bulldogs have got that wish with more than 40 players taking part in match simulation on the club's pre-season camp in Mooloolaba.
Talented forward Aaron Naughton joined in match simulation for the first time on Thursday, as he recovers from the lateral ligament damage he suffered to his left knee in last year's elimination final.
Taylor Duryea ran outside for the first time this off-season since undergoing surgery to fix a groin injury, with the Bulldogs medical staff hoping he will begin taking part in football drills in February.
Alex Keath (leg stress fracture) has taken part in match practice for the past two weeks, while vice-captain Lachie Hunter (shoulder reconstruction) has been in full training since the Christmas break.
The Bulldogs had initially hoped Tom Liberatore (knee) would be able to re-join the main training group by the end of January, but he's now targeting a return in early to mid-February.
Liberatore is back running, but was one of the only players to miss out on Thursday's match simulation, joining Duryea and draftee Riley Garcia (knee reconstruction) on the sidelines.
The Bulldogs have another match simulation scheduled for Sunday, with Naughton also expected to take part in that.
Western Bulldogs forwards coach Ashley Hansen said Naughton has looked great in his rehabilitation process, as the 20-year-old targets a round one return.
"From the incident to be where he's at, it really is a blessing because it could have been a lot worse," Hansen said.
"It certainly looks like he's got his straight-line speed and spring from the non-contact drills that he's been doing.
"That's going to increase over the coming weeks with the game-based non-scripted drills, he'll be able to ramp up the change of direction and agility and contact."
Some good news there, except for Libba, but hopefully he is ok to play some time in the early part of the season.
Yeh worried about Libba. Stevo saying won’t be ready for round 1.
I agree, I was a lot more confident until another poster said we could have seen the best of Libba. If he loses done speed or confidence unfortunately they could be right. It would be a shame he doesn’t get to his full potential however I recon he would make a fantastic load down player if he could run all day.
Things were going too well...
Jong, Wood suffer hamstring injuries
Injury updates on Lin Jong, Easton Wood, Tom Liberatore, Taylor Duryea and Riley Garcia.
The Western Bulldogs have been hit by a pair of hamstring injuries, heading into next week’s first Marsh Community Series match against North Melbourne.
Utility Lin Jong and experienced defender Easton Wood have both had setbacks this week
“Unfortunately from training today, Lin has suffered a high grade hamstring injury,” medical services manager Chris Bell said.
“It was during our match simulation session and he pulled up after accelerating.
“We’re going to work through a process with Lin over the coming days to determine the extent of his injury and his return to play plan.”
The news is less serious for Wood, who has had a minor setback.
He is expected to be sidelined for the next fortnight, before returning for the second Marsh Community Series match.
“In training Monday, Easton suffered some low-grade hamstring tightness,” Bell said.
“Being this time of year, we don’t want to take any risks with Easton, so we’re going to back off his training for a couple of weeks.”
The news is more promising for Tom Liberatore, who is ramping up his pre-season program.
“(Tom) is building up his match fitness and at this stage will put his hand up for selection in the first few weeks of the season,” Bell said.
Taylor Duryea and Riley Garcia are back running, as they continue their rehabilitation from significant injuries.
Lin Jong at least 10 weeks.
Apparently was being trialed on the wing
Jongy is cursed.
Poor bugger can't take a trick
No luck for Lin Jong :(
Wish him a speedy recovery
such a shame for Jongo was looking forward to seeing him in a new role.
Bugger really wanted his hardness around the packs too.
