We've all seen them. They would rather handball to a contest or kick to the teammate in a worse position than have a shot from 40 metres out.

What is it with these guys?
Told to lower the eyes ?
Trying to play the team game?
No confidence ?
Backman who don't think they will be in the position to ever have a shot?
Pressure or perceived pressure ?
Theirs a few reasons I can think of.
Disappointed the Bont didn't have a few shots last night, he is a booming kick. I think they try too hard to look for someone in a better position and they don't want to take on the responsibility.
Lack of belief in themselves. One of the things I like about Stringer, he backs himself. Doesn't always come off, but when it does... And it doesn't mean you have to take the outlandish shots, just be sure of yourself when a gettable one comes up.
I was thinking last night that Adams seems a nice kick. When he was recruited he was touted as being able to play forward and back.
Maybe while we wait for deadeye Dickson to come back we could try Adams forward and bring either Hamling or Collins in?
I don't know the answer, having never played the game at anything beyond third division of a local footy team. However, I'm willing to bet some insights might be unearthed by looking at the kilometres ran during a game, the pressure applied to maintain possession and the fact that many of the wild shots came after a run. Lactic acid? Fatigue? It's hard for me to judge as I was sitting on the couch sinking piss all game.
I'm sure they'll get on top of it. Have faith lads.
Adams can give the ball a great roost. Saw him practising shots on goal from the 50m arc and further out before the game last night and he was sinking them all just about.
I was surprised at how far Caleb Daniel kicked the ball on one occaision. He really has confidence in front of goals and does not show any hesitation.
Would love to be a fly on the wall in a Bevo post match review. Reckon a few players will be asked about finishing and decision making around goals.
I wonder if there's an over emphasis on 'selflessness'. It's really the only explanation I can think of why a player like Bont wouldn't steam in and kick it himself and instead tried to pass to a player in a worse position. It really has to be rectified. Soon.
Having a shot on the run can be low percentage, it can be difficult to steady and then get the height and length on the ball whilst kicking accurately
My feeling is it has a large amount to do with fitness and / or how much work a player has done leading up to the shot on goal. There's not much worse than running a few 50 metre sprints and then finding yourself on the end of one with F50 30 seconds later. Even worse when it is late in the quarter and you're knackered.
It's part of the reason why Riewoldt and Richo missed so many IMO. Both were / are extremely hard runners.
I think it's a confidence thing.
When you've missed a few you lose the confidence and the hunger to want to take and nail those shots.
