Nope, don't like this. A player that doesn't have a position who still loses a lot of defensive match ups despite having May and Lever in the defensive setup and has been overtaken by Petty who is solid but not amazing.
I imagine this is a salary cap dump. They paid top dollar to get him. If they’re prepared to take pick 65. I’m guessing that’s an upgrade on Tim OB. (I haven’t seen much positive on Tim so I assume he had a quiet season)

I suspect we are casting a very wide net to see who is available. It's early days but we should not consider it unless he is very fit and Melbourne are paying a decent chunk of his remaining salary.
Re: Early Trade Rumours for 2022
This would be excellent. We would then have 3x versions of Zaine Cordy.
I think Zaine is fine. Not sure we need 3 of him though!

Zaine is younger than both Jones and Tomlinson.
If we've committed to Zaine we can only take one of Jones and Tomlinson.

If memory serves me correct, didn’t Tomlinson have his breakout at GWS as a tall wingman?
Is that a need going into next year?
Re: Early Trade Rumours for 2022
It'd be nice if we went after good players.
I mean, Dees go after Grundy.
Tigers after the GWS duo.
Lions after Dunkley.
Port after Rioli & Pickett...
Dogs after... Jones & Tomlinson??
It's like we're a poor club in a comp without equalisation. We just seem to try and find bargains when we actually only need a couple of GOOD players in the right positions.

He did. But in his first year at Melbourne he did his acl, so that may be problematic.

I guess you’d need a medical to find out. :)

It does feel that way.
We just don't seem to be an attractive proposition to the in demand players.
Maybe this is the best strategy for us.
I'd prefer we made ourselves more attractive than getting discards.

Speaking to guys who watch Melbourne closely the sentiment is he was never the same after the ACL down in Hobart.
They also say he's fourth in line behind Petty and Dan Turner.
He might be a solid get, but hardly inspiring.

I think we can do better and we should be looking elsewhere but assessing players is all just part of the process preparing for a trade period.
Re: Early Trade Rumours for 2022
Honestly, if we're just gonna get these kinds of scrap heap players, we'd may as well just go to the draft.
I mean, surely we'd have been better off drafting than trading in O'Brien? This has the same feel to it.

I haven't given up on O'Brien being OK for us but with getting Jones for nothing means we should be investing in the draft and hopefully drafting an energetic key defender.
Re: Early Trade Rumours for 2022
I've made too many posts and comments on how average a player Tomlinson is to consider him coming to our club.

I think Petty is average, and Tomlinson is behind him in the queue. Pass.
