  1. Re: Where does our improvement come from in 2022?

I think that we are a better team with Richards' run and carry and McLean's smooth ball handling and disposal. O' Brien will add another player who can defend one on one and intercept which we have...
  2. Re: Welcome Jamarra Ugle-Hagan to the Western Bulldogs

Yep I agree. A couple of bags of 5 or 6 and a couple of quiet games but he'll be consistently kicking 3 in most games by year's end for a total of 30-35 goals I reckon.
  3. Re: Bulldogs turn $1M profit for sixth straight year

I can remember thinking every morning when I woke up "I wonder if this will be the day that the club goes down the gurgler?" Especially in the economic rationalist days of...
  4. Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs - Charlie Parker

I remember saying "whoah, back up a bit. I thought that your ancestors came from Cornwall?" (we were watching a TV show about Cornwall at the time) and she said that half of them did but they were...
  5. Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs - Charlie Parker

My mum waited until I was 57 before she got around to telling me that her grandfather was Chinese. "I thought that I'd told you?"

  7. Re: Is the AFL becoming a private school comp? And does it matter?

In 1902 the Prince of Wales was being introduced to Australian fast bowler Ernie Jones and found out he was from Adelaide. The prince said "Ah, Adelaide. Tell me did you go to Prince Alfred college?"...
  8. Re: Is the AFL becoming a private school comp? And does it matter?

Colin Miller and Merv Hughes both went to state schools. I think that Tony Dodemaide went to Chisholm college in Braybrook.
  9. Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs - Robbie McComb

QUOTE=azabob;771600]Look, I thought it was odd you didn’t say that, considering you raised the Triffids reference and all, but then I thought maybe I do know more about Australian music than...

    Re: Tonights picks

Sam might prefer to have a bit less fuss made about him. I certainly would, people get really worked up about new recruits and we tend to forget that they are only kids.
  11. Re: Welcome Dominic Bedendo to the Western Bulldogs

Watching his in the VFL it looks like Bedendo has that priceless ability to lose his opponent and find lots of space in the forward line and makes the most of each touch he gets.
  12. Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs - Robbie McComb

You know how sometimes you read something or someone tells you something and you think "I knew that, why didn't I say it in the first place" given it's a thread about a bloke called Robert McComb and...

    Re: Tonights picks

    Good summary Gary.

I'm really excited about Arthur Jones after watching his highlight reel. More excited than I've been about a latish draftee than I have been for years.

    And we've had some...

    Heh!

I think I'll take up basketball
  16. Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs - Arthur Jones

In the highlights the way he moves and swoops and kicks the ball all in one movement reminds me of Phil Krakouer. A lot. I know he's a nephew of them but I'd say it even if there was no family...

Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs Ryan Gardner

He was taken in the MId season draft in 2019. I thought that midseason draft players went onto the main list so I'm surprised he was on the Rookie List.

Great to have another Western Jets product on the list too. Buka Khamis, Lachie Hunter, Brad Johnson and Cal Ward are the only others I can remember to have played with us
  24. Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs - Robbie McComb

Coming originally from WA with a surname like McComb his nickname has to be Triffid (after WA band Triffids member David McComb) doesn't it.

    I loved the Triffids

For mine this is one of the great underrated scenes from Australian cinema. David Wenham milks it for all it's worth.

  33. Re: Dean Laidley arrested and remanded until May 11

Yep it was a pretty ordinary act taking and sharing a photo like that at a pretty low ebb for her. Something similar happened just recently at the spring carnival too didn't it?

    Still it's good to...
  34. Re: Dean Laidley arrested and remanded until May 11

It was really good to see.

I was watching the news with my mum and they'd had a story featuring Brad Scott and rule changes just before the North story. Mum pointed at Brad Scott and said "does he...

I agree. Bevo had the academic qualifications and some experience outside of the footy world and I think he appreciates it in others too.
  38. Re: Is the AFL becoming a private school comp? And does it matter?

I had to explain to my mum what a wingman was the other night. Some mentioned it on the telly.

"Well mum, you know how girls usually go out in pairs?"
  39. Re: Is the AFL becoming a private school comp? And does it matter?

    I believe so.

If you've ever seen the film Dogs In Space, most of the guys in the band it's based on met at St Kevins.
  40. Re: Is the AFL becoming a private school comp? And does it matter?

I wouldn't have let my kids anywhere near St Kevin's. When I was younger I knew heaps of Kevies old boys and they weren't exactly shining examples of their school.
