Darren Jarman comes up big again

This is the man who single handedly put us out of the '97 Grand Final

FORGET the controversy about Charlie Sheen's departure from America's top comedy show.

Australia has its own version of Two and a Half Men - Darren Jarman.

The former Hawthorn and Adelaide star was more than a couple of shadows of his former self when he took to the Adelaide Oval this week in an annual charity match that attracted some of the game's biggest names.

Not only does he look like he's been in a good paddock, he's apparently eaten most of the livestock in it.

Jarman had the last laugh in the Slowdown State-of-Origin match between Victoria and South Australia by booting four goals, including the game winner with the last kick of the game. South Australia won by one point in front of 12,000 fans.

Brendan Fevola was awarded the Slowdown Medal for his best on-ground performance, which included three goals. He played alongside the likes of Nathan Thompson, Dermott Brereton, Mick Martyn and Matthew Lloyd.

Fevola looked like he had kicked the winning goal in time-on, thanks to a costly turnover by the South Australians, whose team featured Tony Modra, Andrew Jarman, Gavin Wanganeen and Mark Ricciuto.

That was until Jarman's timely intervention.

"I ran forward and got the handball, great spoil here by Ando (brother Andrew Jarman), and finished it off," Jarman said.

The same Jarman destroyed St Kilda's hopes of winning the 1997 Grand Final when he kicked six goals for Adelaide. He weighed 90kg then.

I'm very surprised they would let him play like that.

He retired in 2001, so he's basically done that to himself in 10 years.

He was actually bigger 2 or 3 years ago. My son was playing against a team that D Jarman was helping coach. He sat in his deck chair and let all the other people set up goal posts and cones etc.

At the quarter time breaks the kids all came to him and stood around him in the chair.

I would have payed good money to see that. Where the hell were the defenders?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Are we really making fun of a guy who's gained weight? Is this highschool? How is this news?

So? Is it really something that needs to be publicized and discussed? What does it matter to anyone else if he gained some weight?
