St Kilda names Scott Watters as senior coach

SCOTT Watters has been appointed coach of St Kilda.

The Saints today told the Collingwood assistant coach that he was the man to take charge of the club.

Watters, 42, beat out fellow AFL assistants Ken Hinkley and Alan Richardson for the job after a series of interviews.

Watters played 109 games after making his debut for West Coast in 1989. He also played for Sydney and Fremantle before retiring in 1996.

He served as a coach at WAFL club Subiaco before joining the Magpies in late 2009.

Well done to Watters and bad lick to Richardson in particular and Hinkley.

    So Im completely bulldog focused:

Will Watters being appointed stop us from hiring Laidley as our lead assistant?

Do Watters and Laidley have a bond as former sacked Eagles?

Rumor has it the saints interviewed a ridiculous amount of people.

    I think they had 40
Good choice IMO, and just wondering is next season a record for Rookie Coaches?

Not according to an interview I heard. I think they discussed 40 candidates and narrowed it down to 6 or 7.

My source is Grant Thomas. Who's yours?
Dear saints, wishing you all the misery, one point losses and scandalous times you can handle.

I heard Pelchin say the started with a list of forty odd, and only interviewed seven or eight.

This is probably the third or fourth time that Hinkley has made it to the last couple and missed out. Looks like he is destined to be an assistant for the rest of his coaching career.

that would be pretty standard procedure I would imagine (40 > 7 or 8)
