    Cats, Crows lead AA squad

    Cats, Crows lead AA squad

GEELONG and Adelaide lead the list of All Australian nominees with each club having five players in a preliminary squad released by the AFL on Tuesday.

The Cats and the Crows make up a quarter of the 40-man squad, from which 22 will be chosen in the All Australian team announced on September 17.

    ...

Last year's captain Gary Ablett is once again the sole Gold Coast player to be nominated, while the Brisbane Lions, Greater Western Sydney, Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs did not have any players nominated.

This last bolded bit surprises me ... I thought Griff (at the very least) would receive a nomination; even Boyd (who was fifty disposals ahead of Ablett; next best; for the year). Big Will ... most hitouts for the year n also feel hard done by.

Not surprised we didn't have any nominees.

Not surprised we don't have any nominees, but also wouldn't have been surprised to see Boyd or Griffen in there. Hard to pick someone in the squad to come out for either of them though.

The three you mention are certainly worthy, but best in their position for the year? Hardly.

    This isn't that news worthy.
Even in our good years we'd only get 1 -2 in the team.

The AFL has their favourites. Rising Star, AA, Brownlow, it's all getting a bit "yeah, whatever".

Chris Judd can hand the ball to an umpire and the commentary will deem it the best pass to an offical the game has ever seen.

Nth supporter at work was saying people on SEN thought Brad Boyd was unlucky.

If Minson was bogan with mullet and played for a name club he'd be in the 40.

Next time you see him, ask him if Norfs captain David Swallow will make the final 22.

Minson and Boyd should be in the 40.

Say what you will about Boyd but he led the competition for disposals in a team that was close to last. Epic performance.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Minson can't make AA because if he left us they would have to give a better compensation pick as a result.

I am gonna go back to my room and put my tin foil hat back on now......

Couldn't agree more, and Minson has lead the competition for hitouts. Rarely beaten in the ruck this year.

I think they choose a lot of players on reputation and whether the team won games or not.

BAD your second point is very true. Although Lenny Hayes and a couple of others are in the team before they start choosing a squad and then they look for reasons why they shouldn't be.

It should be based on each position in a team otherwise you will have 18 midfielders and a couple of talls.

Murph was asking Robbo on AFL 360 whether there is a tagger in the team and he would choose Picken. Robbo said its not based on position by position.

Again another award that is flawed.

And yet the team is supposed to be as on match day. Mixed messages again from city hall. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
